In response to sensory deprivation, the brain adapts to efficiently navigate a modified perceptual environment through a process referred to as compensatory crossmodal plasticity, allowing the remaining senses to repurpose deprived regions and networks. A mechanism that has been proposed to contribute to this plasticity involves adaptations within subcortical nuclei that trigger cascading effects throughout the brain. The current study uses 7T MRI to investigate the effect of perinatal deafness on the volumes of subcortical structures in felines, focusing on key sensory nuclei within the brainstem and thalamus.

Objective: To assess the changes of thalamic metabolites before and after surgery in patients with Cervical Spondylotic Myelopathy (CSM) using Hydrogen Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (H-MRS) and to investigate its association with improvement in neurological function.
Methods: Forty-eight CSM patients who underwent cervical decompression surgery from December 2022 to June 2023 were included, and 33 healthy volunteers were recruited. All subjects underwent bilateral thalamic H-MRS scans before the surgical procedure, and subsequently again 6 months later.

Epilepsies are complex neurological entities usually co-existing with neuropsychiatric comorbidities. We already demonstrated that microinjection of oxytocin (OT) into the central nucleus of amygdala (CeA) induces hypergrooming in Wistar rats, a model of compulsion. Furthermore, the Wistar Audiogenic Rat (WAR) strain is a genetic model of generalized tonic-clonic seizures.

Background: Neuroimaging studies have shown that hypothalamic/thalamic nuclei and other distant brain regions belonging to complex cerebral networks are involved in cluster headache (CH). However, the exact relationship between these areas, which may be dependent or independent, remains to be understood. We investigated differences in resting-state functional connectivity (FC) between brain networks and its relationship with the microstructure of the hypothalamus and thalamus in patients with episodic CH outside attacks and healthy controls (HCs).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by motor symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a non-invasive means to study PD and its progression. This study utilized the unilateral 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) rat model of parkinsonism to assess whether white matter microstructural integrity measured using advanced free-water diffusion tensor imaging metrics (fw-DTI) and gray matter density using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) can serve as imaging biomarkers of pathological changes following nigrostriatal denervation.
