Introduction: Non-fatal road casualties are under-reported, with official figures coming from the police. In the French Rhône county, a road trauma registry constitutes a second source of reporting but its completeness needs to be assessed. We also wish to estimate an incidence rate of non-fatal road casualties that is corrected for under-count.
Methods: Having two sources of reporting available, we can apply the capture-recapture method under certain conditions. To take into account different reporting probabilities among casualties, the capture-recapture analysis is stratified according to injury severity (New Injury Severity Score=NISS), road user type and human third party. To evaluate the sensitivity of the capture-recapture estimate on the number of matched casualties between the police file and the registry, three scenarios of record-linkage are considered.
Results: For serious (NISS 9+) non-fatal road casualties, the police ascertainment rate is at most 57%, the registry ascertainment rate is at most 87%, and the aggregate ascertainment rate is at most 95%. The ascertainment-corrected incidence rate for serious (NISS 9+) non-fatal road casualties is at least 65 per 100,000.
Conclusion: The degree of completeness of the registry for serious casualties is rather high, though not satisfactory.

Lipid variability (LV) has been studied and proposed as a potential predictor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), and increased LV may contribute to adverse clinical outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the association of various LV parameters with the risk of long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) among the Thai population. The study used data from the CORE-Thailand Registry, a prospective multicentre study of adults with high cardiovascular risk or established CVD.

Background: Angiopoietin-like protein 2 (Angptl2) is a cytokine that is released to stimulate inflammation and accelerate atherogenesis. Our study sought to assess the predictive significance of serum Angptl2 in individuals diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and determine whether it can enhance prognostic performance beyond the GRACE risk score.
Methods: We recruited a total of 1060 patients with ACS in a consecutive manner.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the real-world impact of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) on the efficacy, safety, and metabolic profiles of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), both with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: A cohort of 1,130 patients with reduced ejection fraction chronic heart failure (HFrEF) was recruited from Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, spanning January 2021 to August 2023. Among these, 154 patients received SGLT2i therapy, while 131 patients were assigned to a non-SGLT2i group, following specified inclusion and exclusion criteria.

With the growth of the equestrian industry, risk exposure and the obligation to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of humans and horses remain front and centre. As there has been no apparent reduction in non-fatal human horse-related injuries, we asked industry stakeholders to discuss their current management and risk mitigation practices and highlight potential barriers to improving these processes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 stakeholders from Australian equestrian work- ( = 9) and non-work- ( = 11) related organisations to determine the potential benefits and feasibility of adopting an industry-specific health, safety, and welfare (HSW) management system.

Background And Aims: Controversy remains whether the mortality risk in people with fatty liver disease (FLD) including metabolic-(dysfunction) associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic-(dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is higher than observed in those without FLD. We aimed to determine the mortality rate and mortality rate ratio (MRR) for these FLDs.
Methods: The study population was a randomly selected cohort of community-dwelling adults in regional Victoria, Australia between 2001 and 2003 with sufficient data evaluable for Fatty Liver Index and determination on alcohol consumption.
