Hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma: a short review.

Published: October 2006

Hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma is a hamartomatous growth of mesenchymal tissue in the liver of uncertain etiology. It is a space-occupying lesion that can potentially compress adjacent organs resulting in various complications including death. Hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma is characterized by proliferation of variably myxomatous mesenchyme and malformed bile ducts. The differential diagnosis includes other pediatric hepatic masses. The diagnosis is typically made during infancy, and complete resection is invariably curative.

Background: Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) level is related to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression. However, the dynamic expression and regulatory mechanism of Ang-2 remain unclear.

Aim: To investigate Ang-2 levels in chronic liver diseases and validate early monitoring value with a dynamic model in hepatocarcinogenesis.

In this manuscript we comment on the article by Yang published recently, focusing on how hepatic angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2) transcription promote the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HCC is one of the most common and lethal malignancies worldwide, especially in regions with high hepatitis B virus infection rates. Ang-2 is a key mediator of angiogenesis and plays a significant role in the progression of chronic liver diseases towards HCC, particularly in the hypoxic microenvironment.

Background: Liver transplantation for unresectable, benign hepatic lesions is rare. Hepatic mesenchymal hamartomas (HMH) are benign, cystic tumors that arise mostly in pediatric populations and can cause compressive symptoms. HMH is rarely associated with placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome (BWS).

Hepatic mesenchymal hamartoma (HMH) is an uncommon, benign liver tumor predominantly affecting children under three years of age. It is characterized histologically by disorganized mesenchymal stroma, abnormal bile ducts, blood vessels, and hepatocytes. HMH can present as a large cystic mass, a solid mass, or a combination of both.

Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition Induced by a Metal Mixture in Liver Cells With Antioxidant Barrier Decreased.

Occupational exposure to arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) affects many sectors, necessitating research to understand their transformation mechanisms. In this study, we characterized the process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in a rat hepatic epithelial cell line with decreased expression of catalase and glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic (GCLC) subunit that was exposed to a mixture of As, Cd, and Pb at equimolar occupational exposure concentrations. We evaluated the expression of genes and proteins involved in EMT.
