Benign joint hypermobility syndrome: evaluation, diagnosis, and management.

Published: September 2006

Benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) is a connective tissue disorder with hypermobility in which musculoskeletal symptoms occur in the absence of systemic rheumatologic disease. Although BJHS has been well recognized in the rheumatology and orthopedic literature, it has not been discussed in the family medicine literature. Because most patients with musculoskeletal complaints are first seen by family physicians, it behooves primary care physicians to be familiar with recognizing and diagnosing BJHS. When patients with this syndrome are first seen by a physician, their chief complaint is joint pain, so BJHS can be easily overlooked and not considered in the differential diagnosis. Use of the Brighton criteria facilitates the diagnosis of BJHS. Treatment modalities include patient education, activity modification, stretching and strengthening exercises for the affected joint, and osteopathic manipulative treatment.

Bosniak classification version 2019 (v2019) was a major revision to version 2005 (v2005) that defined cystic renal mass subclasses based on wall or septa features. To determine the proportion of malignancy within cystic renal masses stratified by Bosniak classification v2019 class and feature-based subclass. MEDLINE and EMBASE databases were searched on July 24, 2023 for studies published in 2019 or later that reported cystic renal masses that underwent renal-mass CT or MRI, were assessed using Bosniak v2019, and had a reference standard (histopathology indicating benignity or malignancy or ≥5-year imaging follow-up indicating benignity).

MIC: Breast Cancer Multi-label Diagnostic Framework Based on Multi-modal Fusion Interaction.

J Imaging Inform Med

January 2025

School of Information Engineering and Automation, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Kunming, Yunnan, China.

The automated diagnosis of low-resolution and difficult-to-recognize breast ultrasound images through multi-modal fusion holds significant clinical value. However, prevailing fusion methods predominantly rely on image modalities, neglecting the textual pathology information, and only benign and malignant diagnosis of breast tumors is not satisfying for clinical applications. Consequently, this paper proposes a novel multi-modal fusion interactive diagnostic framework, termed the MIC framework, to achieve the multi-label classification of breast cancer, namely benign-malignant classification and breast imaging reporting and data system (BI-RADS) 3, 4a, 4b, 4c, and 5 gradings.

Time-dependent diffusion MRI and kinetic heterogeneity as potential imaging biomarkers for diagnosing suspicious breast lesions with 3.0-T breast MRI.

Magn Reson Imaging

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Beijing Hospital, National Center of Gerontology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, No. 1 Da Hua Road, Dong Dan, Beijing 100730, PR China; Graduate School of Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing, PR China.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of time-dependent diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (td-dMRI) and dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI)-based kinetic heterogeneity in differentiating suspicious breast lesions (categorised as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System 4 or 5).

Methods: This prospective study included 51 females with suspicious breast lesions who underwent preoperative breast MRI, including DCE-MRI and td-dMRI. Six kinetic parameters, namely peak, persistent, plateau, washout component, predominant curve type, and heterogeneity, were extracted from the DCE series using MATLAB and SPM software.

Introduction And Importance: Osteoid osteoma (OO) is a common benign bone tumor, mostly affecting young adults. Since it often develops in long bones, OO is rarely considered as a cause of chronic shoulder pain.

Case Presentation: We treated an 8-year-old boy with ongoing shoulder pain that was worse at night but improved with NSAIDs.
