Recurrent immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) is defined as the recurrence of ITP after at least 3 months of remission sustained without treatment. Among 340 children with ITP, 14 had recurrent ITP (4.1%). Ten were females. The initial course was acute in 8 patients and chronic in 6. The median time to recurrence was 33 months (range 4-120). Only 1 patient had a second recurrence. Twelve (86%) achieved complete (n = 10) or partial (n = 2) remission, two of them after splenectomy. One patient continued to require treatment at 10 months from recurrence. One child died of intracranial hemorrhage despite aggressive treatment including splenectomy and craniotomy.

Ovarian cancer is one of the deadliest gynecologic cancers affecting the female reproductive tract. This is largely attributed to frequent recurrence and development of resistance to the platinum-based drugs cisplatin and carboplatin. One of the major contributing factors to increased cancer progression and resistance to chemotherapy is the tumor microenvironment (TME).

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have moved to the frontline in recent years to manage upper gastrointestinal (UGI) tumors, such as esophageal and gastric cancers. This retrospective review sheds light on real-world data on ICI-treated UGI tumors to identify risk factors (clinical and pathological) impacting the outcome other than traditional biomarkers (programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) or microsatellite instability status).
Methods: Patients with UGI tumors who received at least one dose of ICI for stage IV or recurrent disease between January 1, 2015, and July 31, 2021, at The Ohio State University were included in the study.

Lipid metabolic reprogramming is considered one of the most prominent metabolic abnormalities in cancer, and fatty acid metabolism is a key aspect of lipid metabolism. Recent studies have shown that fatty acid metabolism and its related lipid metabolic pathways play important roles in the malignant progression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). NPC cells adapt to harsh environments by enhancing biological processes such as fatty acid metabolism, uptake, production, and oxidation, thereby accelerating their growth.

Introduction: WT1 often presents on the surface of diffuse pleural mesotheliomas (DPMs) and is an ideal therapeutic target. Galinpepimut-S (GPS), a tetravalent, non-human leukocyte antigen-restricted, heteroclitic WT1-specific peptide vaccine was safe and effective in early phase clinical trials and upregulates T-cell suppressive programmed death-ligand 1 in the tumor microenvironment of other malignancies. A randomized phase 2 study of adjuvant GPS in patients with DPM trended toward improved median overall survival.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTissue-resident memory T (T) cells are crucial components of the immune system that provide rapid, localized responses to recurrent pathogens at mucosal and epithelial barriers. Unlike circulating memory T cells, T cells are located within peripheral tissues, and they play vital roles in antiviral, antibacterial, and antitumor immunity. Their unique retention and activation mechanisms, including interactions with local epithelial cells and the expression of adhesion molecules, enable their persistence and immediate functionality in diverse tissues.
