Chronotropic and Inotropic Effects of Sudachitin, a Polymethoxyflavone from the Peel of Citrus sudachi on Isolated Rat Atria and Its Underlying Mechanisms.

Biol Pharm Bull

December 2024

Laboratory of Functional Food Sciences, Department of Health and Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mukogawa Women's University.

Article Synopsis
  • - Sudachitin, a polymethoxyflavone from sudachi peel, shows promise in improving hyperlipidemia but its effects on heart function were investigated, revealing that it enhances heart rate and contractility in rat atria in a dose-dependent manner.
  • - Unlike isoproterenol, which has a stronger impact, sudachitin and other similar compounds like demethoxysudachitin and nobiletin also increase heart function but to a lesser degree; their effects appear non-specific across these compounds.
  • - The study found that sudachitin enhances heart function through cAMP-dependent pathways rather than through β-adrenoceptors, suggesting a unique mechanism for its action among polymethoxyflavones.

Temporal optimization of meiotic arrest for enhancing oocyte maturity during in vitro maturation of porcine median antral follicles.

Reprod Biol

December 2024

Department of Applied Animal Science, Kangwon National University, Chuncheon 24341, Republic of Korea; Kustogen, Chuncheon 24341, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

During in vitro maturation (IVM), median antral follicles (MAFs) were mechanically aspirated from the porcine ovarian cortex, and this process causes an early disconnection of follicular somatic cells from oocytes within antral follicles before the formation of graafian follicles. Thus, nuclear maturation is accelerated ahead of the completion of cytoplasmic maturation. Dibutyryl-cAMP (dbcAMP), a well-known cAMP modulator, is used to inhibit the resumption of meiosis in immature oocytes.

Upregulation of inhibitor of DNA binding 1 and 3 is important for efficient thermogenic response in human adipocytes.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Laboratory of Cell Biochemistry, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Debrecen, Debrecen, 4032, Hungary.

Brown and beige adipocytes can be activated by β-adrenergic agonist via cAMP-dependent signaling. Performing RNA-sequencing analysis in human cervical area-derived adipocytes, we found that dibutyryl-cAMP, which can mimic in vivo stimulation of browning and thermogenesis, enhanced the expression of browning and batokine genes and upregulated several signaling pathway genes linked to thermogenesis. We observed that the expression of inhibitor of DNA binding and cell differentiation (ID) 1 and particularly ID3 was strongly induced by the adrenergic stimulation.

Fasting hypoglycemia is a severe and incompletely understood symptom of various inborn errors of metabolism (IEM). Precision-cut liver slices (PCLS) represent a promising model for studying glucose production ex vivo. This study quantified the net glucose production of human and murine PCLS in the presence of different gluconeogenic precursors.

Bisphenols are a family of chemicals used in the manufacture of consumer products containing polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Studies have shown that exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) may disrupt steroidogenesis and induce adverse effects on male and female reproduction, but little is known about BPA replacements. We determined the effects of six bisphenols on the steroidogenic function of MA-10 Leydig cells and KGN granulosa cells by measuring the levels of progesterone and estradiol produced by these cells as well as the expression of transcripts involved in steroid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
