Objective: To determine if dividing loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) specimens to provide tissue for research increases rates of LEEP specimen misdiagnosis and recurrent cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.
Materials And Methods: In this chart review, 42 women with biopsy-confirmed cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) 2,3 had up to 20% of their LEEP specimens sectioned and used for immunologic analysis. The remainder of each specimen was assessed routinely. Follow-up cytologic analyses and cervical biopsies also were assessed. This cohort was compared with a control cohort of 80 patients with biopsy confirmed CIN 2,3 whose LEEP specimens were not divided. Statistical significance was defined as a p value of < .05.
Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the groups with regard to histologic assessment of LEEP specimens or follow-up outcomes.
Conclusions: Use of up to 20% of LEEP specimens for research purposes neither adversely affects histologic evaluation of LEEP specimens nor leads to poorer follow-up outcomes.

Objectives: As cervical cancer screening programs are implemented and expanded, an increasing number of women require loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) for treatment of pre-invasive cervical disease. Our objective was to describe the pathological results of LEEP specimens performed as part of the MULHER study and identify factors associated with positive LEEP margins.
Methods: The MULHER study enrolled 9014 women who underwent HPV testing followed by visual assessment for treatment (VAT) using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and thermal ablation for those with positive results.

Objectives: In another publication, we concluded endocervical curettage (ECC) should have a minimum number of squamous cells for adequacy, similar to the requirements for adequate cervical Papanicolaou smears. Here, we investigate if also, similar to cervical Papanicolaou smears, the presence of at least 10 cells from the endocervical/transformation zone (EC/TZ) in ECCs should be used as a quality assurance measure or if, instead, at least 10 EC/TZ cells should be part of the adequacy criteria for ECC, with an emphasis on diagnosis of at least high-grade squamous dysplasia (HGD).
Methods: All patients with at least HGD diagnosed on an excisional biopsy specimen (loop electrosurgical excision procedure [LEEP]) from May 1, 2018, to December 31, 2019, and an ECC in the preceding 6 months at our institution were included.
