Under the framework of network artificial chemistry (NAC), a method to construct a phenotypic machine from genotypic information is proposed. The genotype is expressed as a sequence of nodes (a node chain) with symbol data. According to an implemented algorithm, a chain is agglomerated, tangled, and finally folded into a node cluster that works as a control-flow machine in the network. Two examples of control-flow clusters, splitase and replicase, are presented and their functionality is demonstrated. Several meanings and future research directions are discussed.

The preference for simple explanations, known as the parsimony principle, has long guided the development of scientific theories, hypotheses, and models. Yet recent years have seen a number of successes in employing highly complex models for scientific inquiry (e.g.

Frameshifting is an essential mechanism employed by many viruses including coronaviruses to produce viral proteins from a compact RNA genome. It is facilitated by specific RNA folds in the frameshift element (FSE), which has emerged as an important therapeutic target. For SARS-CoV-2, a specific 3-stem pseudoknot has been identified to stimulate frameshifting.

This study investigates the unsteady aerodynamic mechanisms underlying the efficient flight of birds and proposes a biomimetic flapping-wing aircraft design utilizing a double-crank double-rocker mechanism. Building upon a detailed analysis of avian flight dynamics, a two-stage foldable flapping mechanism was developed, integrating an optimized double-crank double-rocker structure with a secondary linkage system. This design enables synchronized wing flapping and spanwise folding, significantly enhancing aerodynamic efficiency and dynamic performance.

Bound states in the continuum (BICs) are notable in photonics for their infinite Q factors. Perturbed BICs, or quasi-BICs (QBICs), have finite but ultra-high Q factors, enabling external coupling. So far, most studies have focused on the momentum-space properties of BICs and QBICs, with few discussions on their properties in real space.
