Objective: To observe clinical therapeutic effect of different acupuncture intensities on diabetic gastroparesis and to search for the best acupuncture intensity for treatment of diabetic gastroparesis.

Methods: Eighty cases were randomly divided into 4 groups, strong, moderate, weak acupuncture intensity groups and an oral hypoglycemic drug group, 20 cases in each group. Two weeks of treatment constituted one course.

Results: The total effective rates were 85.0%, 95.0%, 85.0% in the acupuncture groups, respectivelly, with significant difference as compared with 65.0% of the control group (P<0.05). The moderate intensity acupuncture group had the best clinical therapeutic effect. The principal frequency and amplitude of the stomach electrogastrogram in the gastric antrum and the stomach body significantly improved in the acupuncture groups, which was better than those in the control group (P<0.05).

Conclusion: Acupuncture has significant therapeutic effect on diabetic gastroparesis, and there is a dose-effect relation between different intensities of acupuncture and curative effects, which are correlated with the regulation of the gastric electric parameters.

Introduction: Chronic low back pain (CLBP), or low back pain lasting greater than 12 weeks, is a prevalent condition that profoundly impacts the quality of life in affected individuals. Traditional treatments - such as physical therapy, medications, injections, minimally invasive procedures, and surgery - often prove ineffective in a considerable number of cases, particularly when utilized as singular modalities. Given the complex biopsychosocial nature of CLBP, a multi-modality approach tailored to each patients' unique needs is essential.

Effect of electroacupuncture on vascular remodeling in rats with cerebral ischemia by regulating irisin based on VEGF/Akt/eNOS signaling pathway.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated how electroacupuncture (EA) affects irisin secretion and its role in recovering brain function and blood vessel health after a stroke in rats.
  • The research showed that EA increased irisin levels significantly after seven days and improved neurobehavioral function while reducing brain damage and enhancing blood flow and vascular growth.
  • These beneficial effects of EA were weakened when the gene responsible for irisin production was silenced, suggesting that irisin plays a critical role in EA’s therapeutic effects on brain recovery.

Purpose: This systematic review aimed to assess the updated literature for the prevention of salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia induced by non-surgical cancer therapies.

Methods: Electronic databases of MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCT) that investigated interventions to prevent salivary gland hypofunction and/or xerostomia. Literature search began from the 2010 systematic review publications from the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) up to February 2024.

College of TCM, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing Key Laboratory of TCM for Prevention and Treatment of Metabolic Diseases, Chongqing 410007, China.

Objective: To assess the impacts of electroacupuncture (EA) on the gait, oxidative stress, inflammatory reaction, and protein degradation in the rats of denervated skeletal muscle atrophy, and explore the potential mechanism of EA for alleviating denervated skeletal muscle atrophy.

Methods: Forty male SD rats, 8 weeks old, were randomly assigned to a sham-surgery group, a model group, an EA group, and a p38 MAPK inhibitor group, with 10 rats in each group. The right sciatic nerve was transected to establish a rat model of denervated skeletal muscle atrophy in the model group, the EA group and the p38 MAPK inhibitor group.

Background: Deutetrabenazine is a widely used drug for the treatment of tardive dyskinesia (TD), and post-marketing testing is important. There is a lack of real-world, large-sample safety studies of deutetrabenazine. In this study, a pharmacovigilance analysis of deutetrabenazine was performed based on the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database to evaluate its relevant safety signals for clinical reference.
