We demonstrate nanoscale resolved infrared imaging of single nanoparticles employing near-field coupling in the nanoscopic gap between the metal tip of a scattering-type near-field optical microscope and the substrate supporting the particles. Experimental and theoretical evidence is provided that highly reflecting or polariton-resonant substrates strongly enhance the near-field optical particle contrast. Using Si substrates we succeeded in detecting Au particles as small as 8 nm (

In vivo optical imaging holds great potential for surgical guidance with the ability to intraoperatively identify tumor lesions in a surgical bed and navigate their surgical excision in real time. Nevertheless, its full potential remains underexploited, mainly due to the dearth of high-performance optical probes. Herein, hybrid cell membrane-biomimetic near-infrared II surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (NIR-II SERS) probes are reported for intraoperative resection guidance of orthotopic glioblastoma.

Near-infrared hyperspectral imaging (NIR-HSI) integrated with expert systems can support the monitoring of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and provide effective quality control of tablet formulations. However, existing quality control methods usually test a limited number of variability sources affecting the final product. This study examines the potential of NIR-HSI (in the spectral range of 935.

With the progress of atherosclerosis (AS), the arterial lumen stenosis and compact plaque structure, the thickening intima and the narrow gaps between endothelial cells significantly limit the penetration efficiency of nanoprobe to plaque, weakening the imaging sensitivity and therapy efficiency. Thus, in this study, a HO-NIR dual-mode nanomotor, Gd-doped mesoporous carbon nanoparticles/Pt with rapamycin (RAPA) loading and AntiCD36 modification (Gd-MCNs/Pt-RAPA-AC) was constructed. The asymmetric deposition of Pt on Gd-MCNs catalyzed HO at the inflammatory site to produce O, which could promote the self-motion of the nanomotor and ease inflammation microenvironment of AS plaque.

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are promising emitters for biological applications because of their excellent fluorescence, convenient surface modification, and photostability. However, the toxic cadmium composition in the state-of-the-art QDs and their inferior properties in the aqueous phase greatly restrict further use. The performance of water-soluble indium phosphide (InP) QDs lags far behind those of Cd-containing counterparts due to the lack of effective surface protection.
