Aim: Treatments targeting vanilloid receptor TRPV1 are effective in some bladder disorders. Our aim was to determine the expression profiles of TRPV1 in regions of human bladder and test the hypothesis that there would be an upregulation of TRPV1 in mucosa of patients with bladder hypersensitivity but not idiopathic detrusor overactivity (IDO).
Materials And Methods: Women with sensory urgency (SU), interstitial cystitis (IC), and IDO were investigated by videourodynamics and cystoscopy. Control biopsies were used for comparison. Biopsies were dissected into mucosa and muscle, and evaluated for TRPV1 mRNA expression using quantitative competitive RT-PCR (QC-RT-PCR).
Results: TRPV1 mRNA from SU trigonal mucosa was significantly higher than control trigonal mucosa or SU bladder body mucosa. In contrast, in IDO patients, there was no difference between trigonal mucosa and body mucosa. In IC biopsies, RNA quality was substandard and unable to be used for analysis. The most striking finding was that TRPV1 mRNA expressed in SU trigonal mucosa was significantly inversely correlated with the bladder volume at first sensation of filling during cystometry. No such relationship was seen for IDO trigonal mucosa. No difference was seen in bladder body mucosa from any disease groups compared with age-matched control.
Conclusions: The symptoms of SU were associated with the increased expression of TRPV1 mRNA in the trigonal mucosa. No upregulation or regional differences of TRPV1 mRNA were seen in IDO patients. TRPV1 may play a role in SU and premature first bladder sensation on filling.

The era of mucoadhesive polymers has advanced to the next generation, focusing on targeted adhesion of chemical functional groups with mucosa. This work aims to develop boronic acid functionalized polymers, which could facilitate reversible binding with the mucin in the mucosa. Pendant groups of boronic acid were conjugated on the chains of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) via C═N bonding.

Introduction And Objective: Recurrent urinary tract infections (R-UTIs) have a negative impact on quality of life and contribute to antimicrobial resistance. Long-term antibiotic therapy is the main treatment alternative but, in some cases, this approach may not be accepted by the patient, is ineffective or poorly tolerated. In selected women, electrofulguration (EF) of trigonal lesions has been shown to reduce urinary tract infection (UTI) episodes.

Urethral polyp, a rare condition, occurs frequently in boys but seldom in young girls. In this report, we describe a case of a six-year-old female patient who experienced dysuria for eight days. Color ultrasound of the patient's urinary system revealed a solid nodule 14×9 mm in size at the opening of the urethra in the trigonal area of the bladder.

Urine differs greatly in ion and solute composition from plasma and contains harmful and noxious substances that must be stored for hours and then eliminated when it is socially convenient to do so. The urinary tract that handles this output is composed of a series of pressurizable muscular compartments separated by sphincteric structures. With neural input, these structures coordinate the delivery, collection, and, ultimately, expulsion of urine.

Vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) is a very commonly encountered urogynaecological entity in developing countries such as India. The most common cause of VVF in developing counties is secondary to obstructive labour. We report a very unusual case of VVF in a young woman that developed due to insertion of an unknown vaginal herb for treatment of primary infertility.
