Epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a complex process that involves changes in gene expression, cytoskeleton organization, cell adhesion, and extracellular matrix composition. Screening for genes mediating EMT and cancer metastasis, Waerner, Alacakaptan, and colleagues identified ILEI, a cytokine-like protein that plays an essential role in EMT, tumor growth, and late steps of metastasis.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are cellular factors involved in every step of RNA metabolism. During HIV-1 infection, these proteins are key players in the fine-tuning of viral and host cellular and molecular pathways, including (but not limited to) viral entry, transcription, splicing, RNA modification, translation, decay, assembly, and packaging, as well as the modulation of the antiviral response. Targeted studies have been of paramount importance in identifying and understanding the role of RNA-binding proteins that bind to HIV-1 RNAs.

Highly active antiretroviral therapy has led to a significant increase in the life expectancy of people living with HIV. The trade-off is that HIV-infected patients often suffer from comorbidities that require additional treatment, increasing the risk of Drug-Drug Interactions (DDIs), the clinical relevance of which has often not been determined during registration trials of the drugs involved. Therefore, it is important to identify potential clinically relevant DDIs in order to establish the most appropriate therapeutic approaches.

The tRNA epitranscriptome has been recognized as an important player in mRNA translation regulation. Our knowledge of the role of the tRNA epitranscriptome in fine-tuning translation via codon decoding at tissue or cell levels remains incomplete. We analyzed tRNA expression and modifications as well as codon optimality across seven mouse tissues.

: Sodium butyrate (NaB) is a potent modulator of cancer-related gene networks. However, its precise mechanisms of action and effects at elevated doses remain insufficiently explored. This study investigated the impact of NaB at physiologically relevant doses on key cellular metrics (viability, confluence, cell number, morphology, nuclear integrity) and a comprehensive set of apoptosis and proliferation regulators (including underexplored genes) in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells.

Immuno-fibrotic networks and their protein mediators, such as cytokines and chemokines, have increasingly been appreciated for their critical role in cardiac healing and fibrosis during cardiomyopathy. Immune activation, trafficking, and extravasation are tightly regulated to ensure a targeted and effective response against non-self antigens/pathogens while preserving tolerance towards self-antigens and coordinate fibrotic responses for efficient scar formation, a distinction that is severely compromised during chronic diseases. It is clear that immune cells are not only the critical regulators of post-infarct healing and scarring but are also the key players in regulating fibroblast activation during left-ventricular (LV) remodeling.
