Cystinuria is a hereditary disorder of cystine and dibasic amino acids (lysine, arginine, ornithine) transport across the luminal membrane of renal tubules and intestine, resulting in recurrent nephrolithiasis. Cystine stones frequently occur in the second or third decade of life with an occasional occurrence in infancy and in old age. Herein is presented the case of a 1-year-old girl with cystinuria and recurrent urolithiasis; the genetic basis of the disease was investigated by mutational analysis of the SLC3A1 gene. The data show that the present patient has an increased cystine (923.08 microg/mL) level and was heterozygote for M467T mutation.

Hepatoblastoma (HBL) and fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FLC) are the most common liver malignancies in children and young adults. FLC oncogenesis is associated with the generation of the fusion kinase, DNAJB1-PKAc (J-PKAc). J-PKAc has been found in 90% of FLC patients' tumors but not in other liver cancers.

Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is an enzyme widely involved in glycolysis in animal cells and in non-metabolic processes, including apoptosis and the regulation of gene expression. GAPDH is a ubiquitous protein that plays a pivotal role in plant metabolism and handling of stress responses. However, its function in plant stress resistance remains unknown.

This study aimed to detect the presence of bovine papillomavirus (BPV) in the testicular tissue of bulls over 1-year old by immunohistochemical, immunofluorescence and molecular assay targeting methods. In addition, γH2AX and cytochrome c expressions were evaluated by immunohistochemical and immunofluorescent methods in samples positive for BPV agent. In this study, 100 testicular specimens that did not show any macroscopic papilloma findings were collected.

Structural or electrophysiologic cardiac anomalies may compromise cardiac function, leading to sudden cardiac death (SCD). Genetic screening of families with severe cardiomyopathies underlines the role of genetic variations in cardiac-specific genes. The present study details the clinical and genetic characterization of a malignant dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) case in a 1-year-old Mexican child who presented a severe left ventricular dilation and dysfunction that led to SCD.
