Congenital liver cysts are not as rare as it was thought in the past. Thanks to new imaging diagnostic techniques, these cysts have been discovered with increasing frequency. Uncomplicated congenital liver cysts are usually asymptomatic or followed by mild symptoms. Various complications of these cysts were reported. Infection of the congenital liver cyst is, however, very rare complication. A 65-year old man with huge infected congenital central liver cyst containing 3400 ml of pus from which Escherichia coli was cultivated was presented. The patient had a number of other histologically confirmed congenital cysts of the liver and the cyst of the left kidney. The patient was cured by pus evacuation, partial excision of the cyst wall and drainage of the cavity and subphrenic space. The uninfected cysts were operated using deroofing technique. A year after surgery the patient remained symptom free.

Background: Liver transplantation is the standard therapy for end-stage liver disease in pediatric patients with biliary atresia (BA), congenital and metabolic conditions, and for an unresectable malignant tumor like hepatoblastoma (HB). BA is the leading indication for pediatric liver transplantation, while HB is the most common childhood liver cancer. Despite improved outcomes through advanced surgical techniques and novel immunosuppression, pediatric liver transplantation (pLT) is complicated by post-transplant infections.

Situs inversus totalis is a rare congenital disorder defined by the transposition of all viscera to the opposite side of the body. Because of this anatomical alteration, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in such a population is significantly challenging. Herein we report a case of a 50-year-old woman presented with epigastric and left upper quadrant pain.

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) in dogs is a metabolic disorder of the central nervous system that occurs secondarily to liver dysfunctions, whether due to acquired or congenital causes. A portosystemic shunt is the presence of abnormal communications between the hepatic vessels (portal and suprahepatic veins). As a result of this, the blood brought from the digestive tract through the portal vein bypasses the liver, and the unmetabolized components of the portal bloodstream enter directly into systemic circulation, causing clinical symptoms of metabolic encephalopathy (HE).

Oropouche virus (OROV) is an orthobunyavirus endemic in the Brazilian Amazon that has caused numerous outbreaks of febrile disease since its discovery in 1955. During 2024, Oropouche fever spread from the endemic regions of Brazil into non-endemic areas and other Latin American and Caribbean countries, resulting in 13,014 confirmed infections. Similarly to other orthobunyaviruses, OROV can undergo genetic reassortment events with itself as well as other viruses.

Objective: Portosystemic shunts in growth-restricted fetuses are more common than previously thought. We aimed to describe fetuses with growth restriction and transient oligohydramnios in which a congenital intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (CIPSS) was noted during follow-up.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of all fetuses diagnosed with growth restriction and transient oligohydramnios during a 5-year period in a large tertiary referral center.
