Objective: To assess urological complications in patients undergoing total pelvic exenteration (TPE) for locally advanced (LARC) and recurrent rectal cancer (RRC) as publications in this area are limited. Secondary objectives were to assess whether LARC vs RRC or radiation status affected urological outcomes.
Methods: Single-centre, retrospective study of TPE patients between January 2017 and December 2022.

Sensitization of primary afferents is essential for the development of pain, but the molecular events involved in this process and its reversal are poorly defined. Recent studies revealed that acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) control the excitability of nociceptors in the urinary bladder. Using genetic and pharmacological tools we show that ASICs are functionally coupled with voltage-gated Ca channels to mediate Ca transients evoked by acidification in sensory neurons.

Purpose: Transient arginine vasopressin deficiency (AVP-D), previously called diabetes insipidus, is a well-known complication of transsphenoidal pituitary surgery (TPS) with no definite predictive biomarker to date making it difficult to anticipate. While oxytocin (OXT) was previously suggested as a possible biomarker to predict syndrome of inappropriate diuresis (SIAD)-related hyponatraemia after TPS, its secretion in patients presenting with AVP-D remains poorly understood. We therefore hypothesized that OXT might present a different secretion in the case of AVP-D which would support its potential as an early biomarker of AVP-D.

Various respiratory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, neurological, and urinary complications have been reported in Kawasaki disease. Here, we describe a rare case of atlantoaxial rotatory fixation (AARF) associated with incomplete Kawasaki disease. The case is of a healthy 4-year-old Japanese boy who had a high-grade fever, lymphadenopathy, and torticollis diagnosed with incomplete Kawasaki disease.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of urinary C-C motif chemokine ligand 14 (CCL14) and the renal resistive index (RI) in predicting persistent AKI in unselected critically ill patients.
Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary hospital's general intensive care unit (ICU). Consecutive adults who were admitted to the ICU were enrolled, with a primary endpoint of AKI lasting 48 h or longer.
