Background: Left ventricular unloading is needed in patients on extracorporeal life support (ECLS) with severely impaired left ventricular contractility to avoid stasis and pulmonary congestion, and to promote LV recovery. The presence of thrombi in the LV precludes the use of conventional active unloading methods such as transaortic microaxial pumps or apical LV vents. We describe placement of a vent cannula via the left atrial appendage (LAA) as a useful bailout option.

The magnetic, electronic, and topological properties of GdPtBi were systematically investigated using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Various magnetic configurations were examined, including ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) states, with particular focus on AFM states where the Gd magnetic moments align either parallel (AFM) or perpendicular (AFM) to the [111] crystal direction. For AFM, the in-plane angles were varied at = 0°, 15°, and 30° (denoted as AFM, AFM, and AFM, respectively).

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) after cardiac arrest (CA) is an important cause of neurological impairment and leads to considerable morbidity and mortality. The stability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) is crucial for minimizing secondary neurological damage and improving long-term prognosis. However, the precise mechanisms and regulatory pathways that contribute to BBB dysfunction after CPR remain elusive.

Background: Our hospital is a designated emergency hospital and accepts many patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Previously, after receiving a direct call from emergency services to request acceptance of an OHCA patient, the emergency room (ER) chief nurse notified medical staff. However, this method delayed ER preparations, so a Code Blue system (CB) was introduced in which the pending arrival of an OHCA patient was broadcast throughout the hospital.

Objective: Post-resuscitation brain injury is a common sequela after cardiac arrest (CA). Increasing sirtuin1 (SIRT1) has been involved in neuroprotection in oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) neurons, and we investigated its mechanism in post-cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) rat brain injury by mediating p65 deacetylation modification to mediate hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis.
Methods: Sprague-Dawley rat CA/CPR model was established and treated with Ad-SIRT1 and Ad-GFP adenovirus vectors, or Erastin.
