Spinal cord injury (SCI) presents challenging and unpredictable neurological recovery. During inflammatory conditions, the amount of serum albumin and nutrition consumption decreases. Currently, it is proposed to measure serum albumin and glucose content in human or animal subjects to predict the recovery rate and the efficiency of treatments following SCI.

Purification is an important step in the production of viral vaccines that strongly affects product recovery and subsequent immune responses. The present study was carried out with the aim of improving the purification of infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) by the tangential flow filtration (TFF) method. Then, the effect of the purified virus on the induction of immune responses against IBDV in specific pathogen free (SPF) chickens was investigated.

ARTEMIS Laboratory, Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute, Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), 6th km Charilaou-Thermi Road, Thermi, P.O. Box: 60361, 57001 Thessaloniki, Greece.

A series of technologies have been employed in pilot-scale to process digestate, i.e. the byproduct remaining after the anaerobic digestion of agricultural and other wastes, with the aim of recovering nutrients and reducing the load of solids and organics from it, hence improving the quality of digestate for potential subsequent reuse.

Article Synopsis
  • - A new DOC-HCl method was developed for estimating free polysaccharide content in Meningococcal serogroups A, C, Y, W, and X within pentavalent vaccines, offering a practical alternative to the ultra-filtration technique.
  • - Two specific DOC-HCl formulations were created for different serogroups with varying hydrochloric acid concentrations, ensuring effective protein-DOC complex precipitation and enhanced accuracy in polysaccharide measurement.
  • - The method demonstrated robust performance with good recovery rates (70-130%), low variability (2-14%), and no interference from assay components, making it suitable for quality control in multivalent vaccines.

Effect of Metal Cations on Colloids-Microcystin-LR Interaction.

Bull Environ Contam Toxicol

August 2023

School of Environment, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing, 210023, China.

Colloidal particles, mixture with continuous molecular weight distribution and multiple organic components, is widespread in lake and have significant impact on the retention, migration, transportation, and fate of contaminants in lake ecosystems. Here we extract sedimentary colloids from algal growth dominant area (AD) in Taihu Lake and further separated into four different particle size ranges by cross-flow ultra-filtration (CFUF). The interaction mechanism between colloids and Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) was investigated under different cation conditions by dialysis equilibrium experiment method.
