The fixation of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the central nervous system by perfusion with formalin solutions seems to take place mainly via the formalin-induced condensation product norsalsolinol. In the present investigation the influence of microwave irradiation of the formalin-induced condensation of dopamine was studied in vitro and in vivo by making use of different, relatively low, formalin concentrations. It appeared that in vitro and in vivo the dopamine conversion was complete with 4% formalin and no influence of microwaves was noted. However, by making use of much lower formalin concentrations (0.2% and 0.4%) the condensation of dopamine was strongly augmented, in vitro (200%) and in vivo (at least 500%) using microwave techniques. There was a considerable loss in non-microwaved tissue (30%) after perfusion in vivo. This was lower (10%) in microwaved tissue. In experiments with perfused brain tissue which allowed a more complete calculation, a loss was found. This might be caused by a strong binding of dopamine and/or norsalsolinol to tissue components or to side reactions that could not be traced by the present experimental techniques.

This research was carried out to assess the concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO) and formaldehyde (HCHO) in Edo State, Southern Nigeria, using remote sensing data. A secondary data collection method was used for the assessment, and the levels of CO and HCHO were extracted annually from Google Earth Engine using information from Sentinel-5-P satellite data (COPERNISCUS/S5P/NRTI/L3_) and processed using ArcMap, Google Earth Engine, and Microsoft Excel to determine the levels of CO and HCHO in the study area from 2018 to 2023. A major risk to the poultry industry is antimicrobial resistance (AMR), specifically with regard to Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) infections. The sensitivity patterns of 100 MG isolates to biocides and antibiotics were examined in this study to clarify the interactions between antimicrobial agents and resistance mechanisms. Proper identification and management of post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL) and canine leishmaniasis (CanL) cases are among the prerequisites to the effective control of visceral leishmaniasis worldwide. Unlike PKDL, CanL still awaits effective improvement because of its cryptic nature, absence of parasites in lesions or lymph nodes and not complete sensitivity of some diagnostic tools in use. Because of the need for certain skills and equipment, both the liquid direct agglutination test and freeze-dried direct agglutination test (FD-DAT) versions are, in comparison with the indirect immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT) or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), practical and feasible diagnostic alternatives.

N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) is a known water disinfection byproduct (DBP) characterized as a potent hepatotoxin, promutagen, and probable human carcinogen; this is because of the metabolites associated with its biotransformation. The metabolism of NDMA produces formaldehyde, another alkylating agent and DBP. Both compounds are generated from natural and anthropogenic sources, but the safety restrictions applied to NDMA do not extend to the uses of formaldehyde.
