States differ significantly in international sports competitions in how they use the resources they have and whether they do so in an efficient manner. In this paper, we investigate the efficiency of the nations from the so-called "Global South", in total 52 states, during the 2000-2024 Summer Olympics. By doing this, our paper is the first using the Bayesian stochastic frontier analysis for exploring the performance of the states of the Global South.

Background: It is crucial to comprehend the interplay between air pollution and meteorological conditions in relation to population health within the framework of "dual-carbon" targets. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of intricate environmental factors, encompassing both meteorological conditions and atmospheric pollutants, on respiratory disease (RD) mortality in Qingdao, a representative coastal city in China.
Methods: The RD mortality cases were collected from the Chronic Disease Surveillance Monitoring System in Qingdao during Jan 1st, 2014 and Dec 31st, 2020.

Climate change is impacting forests in complex ways, with indirect effects arising from interactions between tree growth and reproduction often overlooked. Our 43-y study of European beech () showed that rising summer temperatures since 2005 have led to more frequent seed production events. This shift increases reproductive effort but depletes the trees' stored resources due to insufficient recovery periods between seed crops.

Azerbaijan is major producer of fruit crops, such as pome and stone fruits, in the Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains areas (FAO Stat, 2022). No information is available on the occurrence of apple chlorotic leaf spot virus (ACLSV, genus Trichovirus, family Betaflexiviridae) in the country. Therefore, the main fruit tree production areas in Azerbaijan were surveyed for ACLSV during the 2017-2019 growing seasons by DAS-ELISA using ACLSV reagents (Neogen - Scotland, UK) (Clark and Adams 1977).
