Objective: To explore the relationship between polymorphisms of DNA repair gene XRCC1 and susceptibility to radiation injury.
Methods: In 1:1 case-control study, 113 abnormal chromosome workers exposed to ionizing radiation were selected as cases and 113 normal chromosome as controls who matched with case for sex, age (+/- 5 years), nation, type of work, the same or more but in 2 years work length and the same similar levels of the cumulative exposure radiation dose. Genotypes were analysed using PCR based restriction fragment length polymorphism techniques.
Results: The frequency of XRCC1 26304TT allele in case group (18.58%) was significantly higher than that in control group (7.08%), with OR for radiation damage being 3.47 (95% CI 1.43 - 8.44, P < 0.05). No association was observed between XRCC1 G27466A and G28152A and susceptibility to radiation injury.
Conclusion: The mutation of XRCC1 C26304T is related with the susceptibility to radiation injury. The polymorphisms of XRCC1 G27466A and G28152A are not found to have association with abnormal chromosomes.

Introduction: The current first-line therapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is often associated with long-term complications. Oncolytic measles virus (MV) therapy offers a promising alternative to cancer therapy. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of MV in killing NPC cells in vitro, both with or without resistance to radiation and drug therapy.

Developing superwetting coatings with environmental adaptability is critical for sustainable industrial applications. However, traditional anti-wetting coatings often fall short due to their susceptibility to environmental factors (UV light, temperature, mold growth, and abrasion) and inadequate stain resistance in complex media. Herein, a durable ex situ pH-responsive coating with reversible wettability switching, engineered by integrating hydrophobic polydimethylsiloxane and tertiary amine structures is presented.

Structural, functional, and molecular-level changes in the aging heart are influenced by a dynamic interplay between immune signaling and cellular metabolism that is referred to as immunometabolism. This review explores the crosstalk between cellular metabolic pathways including glycolysis, oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid metabolism, and the immune processes that govern cardiac aging. With a rapidly aging population that coincides with increased cardiovascular risk and cancer incidence rates, understanding the immunometabolic underpinnings of cardiac aging provides a foundation for identifying therapeutic targets to mitigate cardiac dysfunction.

Purpose: To address the prevalence and risk factors of postoperative chronic opioid dependence, focusing on the development of a predictive scoring system to identify high-risk populations.
Methods: We analyzed data from the Taiwan Health Insurance Research Database spanning January 2016 to December 2018, encompassing adults undergoing major elective surgeries with general anesthesia. Patient demographics, surgical details, comorbidities, and preoperative medication use were scrutinized.

One of the biggest challenges in food packaging is the creation of sustainable and eco-friendly packaging materials to shield foods from ultraviolet (UV) photochemical damage and to preserve the distinctive physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of foods throughout the supply chain. Accordingly, this study focuses on enhancing the UV shielding properties and biological activity of carboxylmethyl cellulose sodium (CMC) through modifications using zinc oxide (ZnO), copper oxide (CuO), and graphene oxide (GO) using the solution casting technique. The hybrid nanocomposites were characterized by fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrophotometer, ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and x-ray diffraction (XRD).
