The spatial structure of a stilbenoid dendrimer is investigated by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) in dilute solution. All measurements are performed in toluene. The dendrimer consists of a stilbenoid scaffold with appended hexyloxy chains. SAXS is mainly sensitive to the dendrimer scaffold whereas SANS intensity, measured in fully deuterated toluene, derives from the solute molecules. The resulting SAXS and SANS intensities are analyzed by comparison with various models. It is found that the model of a circular disk gives the best description of the data. SAXS data demonstrate that the stilbenoid scaffold is flat as expected for benzene rings conjugated through vinylene units. Thus, it can be described by a circular disk with a radius of 1.6 nm and a thickness of 0.7 nm. SANS, on the other hand, shows that the hexyloxy chains are not confined in the plane defined by the core. This is derived from modeling the SANS data with a much thicker circular disk (radius: 2.4 nm, thickness: 1.8 nm). The structure factor S(q), describing the interaction of the dendrimers at higher concentrations, is modeled quantitatively with the "polymer reference interaction site model" (PRISM) integral equation formalism for hard plates such as particles. Here the structural data obtained from the analysis of the SANS data are used so that no new adjustable parameter is necessary for this description.

Due to their antibacterial and antifungal properties, parabens are commonly used as biocides and preservatives in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Parabens have been reported to exist in various water matrices at low concentrations, which renders the need for sample preparation before their quantification using analytical techniques. Thus, sample preparation methods such as solid-phase extraction (SPE), rotating-disk sorptive extraction (RDSE), and vortex-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid extraction (VA-DLLE) that are commonly used for parabens extraction and preconcentration have been discussed.

We study the electron and phonon transport coefficients of graphene disks and rings in the presence of Klein edges. We examine the transport characteristics by changing of the outer and inner radius using the non-equilibrium Green's function approach. We find that the effect of the nanodisk radius is highly influenced by the Klein edges, such that at small radii, armchair Klein edges can help preserve the electronic transport coefficient from suppression, while zigzag Klein edges significantly suppress the transmission spectrum, highlighting the importance of the edge atom sublattice.

This formulation is further modified to cover the case of the plane guided wave scattering from the same inhomogeneity. For the lossless plane, the diffracted field combines a classical outgoing spherical wave, satisfying the Silver-Muller radiation condition, with an outgoing cylindrical guided wave supported by the plane; the power absorbed in the lossy filling is finite.

-In the present paper, a modified linear capacitive displacement transducer is developed, where the measurement errors and non-linearity errors due to the various effects such as the effect of the change of atmospheric parameters, the effect of parasitic fringe capacitance, the effect of stray capacitance, the effect of parallel position shifting of the sensing plates, etc. are minimized, and the output is linearly related with displacement for any range. The transducer consists of a sensing capacitor and a similar reference capacitor, each of which has a noninductive double layer short-circuited winding wound on an insulating uniform hollow cylinder.
