We describe two adult patients with left ventricular noncompaction in whom live/real time three-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography (3DTTE) supplemented two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography in making a definitive diagnosis of clots coexisting with trabeculations in the left ventricle. Mobility of clots and the presence of central echolucencies consistent with clot lysis were best demonstrated by 3DTTE and served to confidently differentiate clots from adjacent trabeculations.

Real-Time Quantification of the Effects of IS200/IS605 Family-Associated TnpB on Transposon Activity.

Here, a protocol is outlined to perform live, real-time imaging of transposable element activity in live bacterial cells using a suite of fluorescent reporters coupled to transposition. In particular, it demonstrates how real-time imaging can be used to assess the effects of the accessory protein TnpB on the activity of the transposable element IS608, a member of the IS200/IS605 family of transposable elements. The IS200/IS605 family of transposable elements are abundant mobile elements connected with one of the most innumerable genes found in nature, tnpB.

Background: Left ventricular false tendon (LVFT) is a fibromuscular band crossing the left ventricular cavity. And Chiari's network (CN) is a highly mobile, mesh-like, echogenic structure in right atrium. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the coexistence of LVFT in patients with CN.

Introduction: One of the most challenging aspects of Emergency Medicine (EM) residency is mastering the leadership skills required during a resuscitation. Use of resuscitation video recording for debriefing is gaining popularity in graduate medical education. However, there are limited studies of how video technology can be used to improve leadership skills in the emergency department.

Ultrasound guided brain abscess aspiration.

Br J Neurosurg

June 2024

Department of neurosurgery, St George's NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.

A brain abscess is a neurosurgical emergency and frequently requires drainage to relieve intracranial pressure and identify the offending organism. Surgical adjuncts including neuronavigation and intra-operative CT and MRI facilitate surgery, but have limitations, including cost and not offering real time intracranial views. Intra-operative ultrasound is a fast and relatively cheap tool which offers live, real time imaging and visualisation of an abscess being aspirated, but is less frequently used.
