Background: Exposed cranial bone can present a considerable challenge to the reconstructive surgeon. Removal of the outer cortex of exposed skull bone has proven effective in the management of complex scalp wounds for which traditional reconstruction efforts were limited.
Objective: To demonstrate a simplified approach for management of scalp wounds with exposed skull.

Chronic osteomyelitis (OM) represents a severe and persistent infectious bone disease. Effective treatment requires controlled anti-inflammatory releases and bone regeneration across disease phases. A Sr@Ag-based scaffold was successfully printed, featuring micron-scale coaxial fibers containing Ag-doped hydroxyapatite (HA) in the outer layer of PLLA and Sr-doped HA in the inner layer of PLLA, facilitating the spatiotemporal and sequential release of Ag and Sr ions during OM treatment.

Introduction: Scaffolds loaded with antibacterial agents and osteogenic drugs are considered essential tools for repairing bone defects caused by osteomyelitis. However, the simultaneous release of two drugs leads to premature osteogenesis and subsequent sequestrum formation in the pathological situation of unthorough antibiosis.
Objectives: In this study, a spatiotemporal drug-release polydopamine-functionalized mesoporous silicon nanoparticle (MSN) core/shell drug delivery system loaded with antibacterial silver (Ag) nanoparticles and osteogenic dexamethasone (Dex) was constructed and introduced into a poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) scaffold for osteomyelitis therapy.

Introduction: The second wave of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) led to the resurgence of opportunistic infections due to the injudicious use of steroids. Sinonasal mucormycosis was declared an epidemic in India during the pandemic. Mucormycosis was managed effectively by surgical debridement along with systemic amphotericin B.
