We report a patient with a recurrent stress fracture and subsequent nonunion around an intramedullary nail placed for treatment of a more proximal, chronic tibial stress fracture. After 9 months of failed nonoperative treatment, we performed an exchange intramedullary nailing with open bone graft. At 8 months postoperatively, the patient showed clinical and radiographic signs of healing.

The factors leading to mine water inrush accidents are mainly sources of water, water channels, and intensity of water inrush. Mine water rush depends mostly on whether damage leads to the overlying strata of the working face penetrating the overlying aquifer. There is therefore a need to characterize how the overlying strata of the coal seam roof fails and the development height of the water-conducting fracture zone during a roof water inrush incident.

Investigating the fascinating world of natural fibers, where Syagrus romanzoffiana fibers (SrFs) are promising substitutes for glass and synthetic fibers in composite materials, is more than interesting. The improvement of SrFs through an environmentally friendly treatment employing sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) at different concentrations (5 %, 10 %, 20 %, and 30 % by weight) over various durations (24, 72, and 168 h) is the subject of this study. The objective is to provide a sustainable and economical approach to enhancing fiber characteristics.

Purpose: Controversy exists regarding the optimal imaging modality (magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, stress radiographs) for identification of patients with grossly unstable thumb metacarpophalangeal (MCP) ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) injuries or Stener lesions. We characterize a radiographic sign for this purpose. The "displaced fleck sign" is a small avulsion fracture from the ulnar proximal phalanx base that is displaced proximal to the MCP joint line.

Background: Traumatic injuries, such as falling, car accidents, and crushing mostly cause spinal fractures in young and middle-aged people, and > 50% of them are thoracolumbar fractures. This kind of fracture is easily combined with serious injuries to peripheral nerves and soft tissues, which causes paralysis of the lower limbs if there is no timely rehabilitation treatment. Young patients with thoracolumbar fractures find it difficult to recover after the operation, and they are prone to depression, low self-esteem, and other negative emotions.

Hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal development faces challenges due to the difficulty of stimulating fluid flow and heat-exchange fracture channels within deep, low-porosity, and low-permeability reservoirs. A liquid nitrogen cyclic cold shock method was proposed, using liquid nitrogen as a fracturing fluid. The large temperature difference between the liquid nitrogen and the hot rock induces thermal stress, forming a complex pore-fracture network.
