As demonstrations of clinical efficacy, cases reported by Freud and Bernheim reveal an intrinsic advantage of hypnotic symptom removal over therapies requiring extended periods to achieve significant outcomes. They also lend support to Weitzenhoffer's survey of therapeutic results achieved during the classical (pre-1900) period.

Bromvalerylurea is a sedative-hypnotic agent commonly available in over-the-counter (OTC) medications in Japan and other regions. Although widely used, its prolonged and unsupervised use poses significant risks of dependency and withdrawal. Abrupt discontinuation of bromvalerylurea can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms, including agitation, hallucinations, and seizures.

Background: Although studies have revealed the benefits of using dexmedetomidine (DEX) in treating rodent models of acute lung injury (ALI) by improving their survival rates, clinical investigation on the effect of DEX on patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remains scarce. Through this retrospective study, we aim to better understand the underlying mechanism of sepsis-induced ARDS and the effect of DEX on patients' standard treatment.
Methods: A total of 208 patients with sepsis-induced ARDS, admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Affiliated Hospital of Jiangsu University, China, from January 2017 to December 2019, were included.

The illicit use of the alpha-2 agonist animal tranquilizer xylazine ("tranq"), generally combined with fentanyl or heroin, has become an emerging health threat across the United States and Canada. We introduce a case showing the benefit of multidisciplinary management of a patient who presented for surgical management of xylazine-induced skin ulcers. In the perioperative period, maintenance of full-agonist opioids and alpha-2 agonists minimized the patient's withdrawal symptoms.

Objective: To investigate the effect of ultrasound-guided bilateral superficial cervical plexus nerve blocks with Ropivacaine or a combination of different adjuvants on perioperative analgesia and quality of postoperative recovery in patients undergoing radical thyroid cancer surgery under general anesthesia with nerve monitoring without muscarinic maintenance.
Methods: A total of 140 patients undergoing elective radical thyroid cancer surgery were randomly divided into four groups, with 35 cases in each group: general anesthesia alone group (Group C), general anesthesia + Ropivacaine group (Group R), general anesthesia + Ropivacaine combined with dexmedetomidine group (Group R1), and general anesthesia + Ropivacaine combined with dexamethasone group (Group R2). The primary observation index were postoperative resting and active Visual Analogue Score.

We aimed to evaluate the effect of remimazolam-based general anesthesia on cellular immune function and postoperative recovery quality in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical colorectal cancer surgery. A total of 90 patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic colorectal cancer radical surgery were randomly divided into 2 groups: the remimazolam group (Group R) and the propofol group (Group P), with 45 patients in each group. Anesthesia induction in Group R involved intravenous remimazolam, and in Group P, intravenous propofol until the loss of consciousness (modified observer's assessment of alertness/sedation [MOAA/S] score 1-2).
