Fryns syndrome is an extremely rare developmental disorder associated with deletion of long arm of chromosome 16. Characteristics of the Fyns syndrome are: craniofacial dysmorfism, diaphragmatic defects with lung hypoplasia, distal digital hypoplasia, brain and urogenital abnormalities and other developmental disturbances. After the first description in two stillborn sisters by Fryns (1971), new reports appeared with descriptions included disorders which have not described previously. We described a case of female live born with deletion of long arm of chromosome 16. Our patient had a typical craniofacial dysmorfism, brain abnormalities (Dandy Walker malformation), cardiac defects (artial septal defect and persistent ductus arteriosus), renal hypoplasia, gastrointestinal problems, hypotonia and feeding difficulties. Our patient had no diaphragmatic hernia and he survived neonatal period with severe neurological impairment.

Objective: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a motor neuron disorder encompassing 5q and non-5q forms, causing muscle weakness and atrophy due to spinal cord cell degeneration. Understanding its genetic basis is crucial for genetic counseling and personalized treatment options.
Methods: This study retrospectively analyzed families of patients suspected of SMA at our institution from February 2006 to March 2024.

Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the frequency of pathogenic copy number variants (CNVs) classified as incidental findings (IFs) in prenatal diagnosis and to develop consensus recommendations for standardizing their reporting across six centers within the Catalan public health system (XIGENICS network).
Method: A retrospective review of 4219 consecutive prenatal microarrays performed within the network from 2018 to 2023 was conducted, including all referral reasons. To develop consensus recommendations, several discussion meetings were held along with an extensive review of the existing literature.

Pancreatic islet β-cells express the Cpt1a gene, which encodes the enzyme carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A (CPT1A), an enzyme that facilitates entry of long chain fatty acids into the mitochondria. Because fatty acids are required for glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, we tested the hypothesis that CPT1A is essential to support islet β-cell function and mass. In this study, we describe genetic deletion of Cpt1a in pancreatic tissue (Cpt1a) using C57BL/6J mice.

The phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) gene is a critical tumor suppressor that plays an essential role in the development and functionality of the central nervous system. Located on chromosome 10 in humans and chromosome 19 in mice, PTEN encodes a protein that regulates cellular processes such as division, proliferation, growth, and survival by antagonizing the PI3K‑Akt‑mTOR signaling pathway. In neurons, PTEN dephosphorylates phosphatidylinositol‑3,4,5‑trisphosphate (PIP3) to PIP2, thereby modulating key signaling cascades involved in neurogenesis, neuronal migration, and synaptic plasticity.

Objective: Osteoarthritis is a chronic, debilitating disease that causes long-term pain and immobility. Germline deletion of Phlpp1 or administration of small molecules that inhibit Phlpp1 prevents post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) in mice. However, the chondrocyte-intrinsic role of Phlpp1 in PTOA progression is unknown.
