The term quorum sensing (QS) refers to the ability of bacteria to regulate gene expression according to the accumulation of signalling molecules that are made by every cell in the population. The erwiniae group of bacteria are often phytopathogens and the expression of a number of their important virulence determinants and secondary metabolites is under QS control. The erwiniae utilise two types of QS signalling molecules: N-acyl homoserine lactones and AI-2-type signalling molecules. Here, we review the regulatory networks involving QS in the soft rot erwiniae.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV) has emerged as a powerful and effective tool for the delivery of exogenous genes into various cells or tissues. To improve the gene delivery efficiency, as well as the safety and specificity of AAV's cell-targeting capabilities, extensive investigations have been conducted into its molecular biological characteristics, including capsid structure, cellular tropism, and the mechanisms underlying its entry, replication, DNA packaging, and capsid assembly. Significant differences exist between human and non-human primate AAVs regarding tissue targeting and transduction efficiency.

Quorum sensing (QS) also known as bacterial cell-cell communication or bacterial crosstalk is a phenomenon regulating various bacterial traits that can affect plant growth and defence. Similarities in the structure of root exudates and bacterial signalling molecules have tremendous implications governing the plant heath. Background: Current clinical sequencing methods cannot effectively detect DNA methylation and allele-specific variation to provide parent-of-origin information from the proband alone. Parent-of-origin effects can lead to differential disease and the inability to assign this in de novo cases limits prognostication in the majority of affected individuals with retinoblastoma, a hereditary cancer with suspected parent-of-origin effects.
Methods: To directly assign parent-of-origin in retinoblastoma patients, genomic DNA was extracted from blood samples for sequencing using a programmable, targeted single-molecule long-read DNA genomic and epigenomic approach.

Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) represents an energy-efficient process for the removal of biological nitrogen from ammonium-rich wastewater. However, the susceptibility of anammox bacteria to coexisting heavy metals considerably restricts their use in engineering practices. Here, we report that acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL), a signaling molecule that mediates quorum sensing (QS), significantly enhances the nitrogen removal rate by 24% under Cu stress.
