Published: September 2006

The electron donor-acceptor abilities of some cyclic ethers (tetrahydropyran or tetrahydrofuran), benzene, and halobenzenes (fluorobenzene or chlorobenzene) and the molecular interactions between these compounds have been investigated through a wide set of thermodynamic mixing properties of their mixtures. The mixing properties have been derived from experimental measurements of density, speed of sound, refractive index, surface tension, heat of mixing, and vapor-liquid equilibrium at the temperature of 298.15 K.

Colegio de Postgraduados, Posgrado de Edafología, Microbiología de Suelos, Montecillo, Estado de México, México.

The aim of our study was to characterize the hydrodynamics and mass transfer in a novel internal flat-plate airlift cylindrical reactor to increase the biodegradation of newspaper. We evaluated the degradation kinetics of newspaper in a batch culture with . Gas holdup, mixing time, the Reynolds number, and volumetric mass transfer coefficient () properties were characterized in biphasic and triphasic systems in order to optimize their operational conditions.

This prospective cohort study is aimed to investigate circadian variations in corneal parameters, focusing on sleep-deprived subjects. Sixty-four healthy individuals (age range: 21-76 years) actively participated in this study, undergoing examinations at least five times within a 24-hour timeframe. The analysis encompassed keratometric parameters of the cornea's front (F) and back (B) surfaces, refractive power in flattest and steepest axes (K1, K2), astigmatism (Astig) and its axis (Axis), aspheric coefficient (Asph), corneal pachymetry values of thinnest corneal thickness (Pachy Min) and corneal thickness in the center of the pupil (Pachy Pupil), volume relative to the 3 and 10 mm corneal diagonal (Vol D3, Vol D10) and surface variance index (ISV).

College of Food Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, Hubei Province 430070, PR China. Electronic address:

The in-situ-produced dextrans (DXs) could effectively enhance the viscosity of rice protein (RP) yogurt, but the reason for this improvement has not been elucidated. This study aims to reveal the mechanism underlying the viscosity improvement of RP yogurt by the presence of in-situ DXs. DXs synthesized in RP yogurts under different optimum conditions were purified and fully characterized.

Substrate-specific responses to mixing conditions in high-solids enzymatic hydrolysis: Insights from microcrystalline cellulose and dilute-acid pretreated corncob.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Jiangsu Co-Innovation Center of Efficient Processing and Utilization of Forest, Resources, College of Chemical Engineering, Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing 210037, PR China. Electronic address:

This study investigates the mixing effects on the enzymatic hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and dilute-acid pretreated corncob substrates under high-solid conditions. Enzymatic hydrolysis experiments were conducted to assess cellulose conversion rates under varying mixing conditions (0, 50, 150, and 250 rpm) and solids loadings (5 %, 15 %, 25 %, and 35 %, w/v), and distinct physicochemical properties of the substrates were characterized. Additionally, the role of mixing conditions and solid loadings on cellulose hydrolysis kinetics and enzyme adsorption on both substrates and lignin were elucidated.

This research aims to design a novel selective and multifunctional adsorbent based on Al/Cu modified hemp fibres as a novel and multifunctional adsorbent for removing different classes of pollutants. The adsorbent, which was widely characterized, was shown to be more effective in removing anionic dyes compared to cationic ones. Among the tested dye, methyl orange was selected to understand how different parameters, such as temperature (20-80°C), contact time, pH (2-12), initial dye concentration (50-300 ppm), salinity and adsorbent dosage (1-10 g/L) affect the removal capacity.
