Realization of four-level qudits using biphotons.

Published: July 2006

The novel experimental realization of four-level optical quantum systems (ququarts) is presented. We exploit the polarization properties of the frequency nondegenerate biphoton field to obtain such systems. A simple method that does not rely on am interferometer is used to generate and measure the sequence of states that can be used in quantum key distribution protocol.

Quantum walks on photonic platforms represent a physics-rich framework for quantum measurements, simulations and universal computing. Dynamic reconfigurability of photonic circuitry is key to controlling the walk and retrieving its full operation potential. Universal quantum processing schemes based on time-bin encoding in gated fibre loops have been proposed but not demonstrated yet, mainly due to gate inefficiencies.

Zero-dimensional metal halides with diverse structures and rich photophysical properties have been reported. However, achieving multimode dynamic luminescence and efficient near-infrared (NIR) emission under blue light excitation in a single system is a great challenge. Herein, Sb-doped hybrid Cd(II) halides were synthesized by a large scale synthesis process at room temperature.

Enantiospecific state transfer of chiral molecules is extremely important because enantiomers coexist in many biologically active compounds and play significantly different physiological, pharmacological, and biological roles. The inherently strong electric-dipole optical approaches based on the cyclic three-level model of chiral molecules have been extensively discussed. But, for the cases of large chiral molecules and/or chiral molecules of low asymmetry, the four-level model with two sub-loops is more realistic to describe the molecules.

In the era of big data, the amount of global data is increasing exponentially, and the storage and processing of massive data put forward higher requirements for memory. To deal with this challenge, high-density memory and neuromorphic computing have been widely investigated. Here, a gradient-doped multilayer phase-change memory with two-level states, four-level states, and linear conductance evolution using different pulse operations is proposed.
