Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the optimal number of coplanar and noncoplanar external beams in the setting of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT).

Methods And Materials: Spherical targets were delineated within 2 separate extracranial sites, the lung and liver, with diameters varying from 2 cm to 7 cm to cover the range of volumes used in SBRT. Treatment plans were created for all target volumes using 5 to 15 geometrically optimized coplanar and noncoplanar conformal beams. Dose gradient and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) were evaluated for each set of beam configurations and for each target size.

Results: For all lung and liver target volumes, the dose gradient improved with an increase in beam number from 5 to 15 for both coplanar and noncoplanar beam configurations. NTCP decreased as the beam number increased from 5 to 9 beams for all target sizes for both coplanar and noncoplanar beams. There is no significant improvement in NTCP when more than 9 beams were used for treatment planning regardless of target size.

Conclusion: Based on dosimetric criteria, the optimal number of external beams is 13 to 15 for SBRT using either coplanar or noncoplanar beam bouquets. Simple biologic models indicate that the optimal number of beams is 9 for SBRT of lung and liver lesions >2 cm, whereas smaller lesions may benefit from plans using up to 13 beams.

In this paper, a demodulation method based on a temporal-convolutional feature fusion network (TCFFN) is proposed for the non-line-of-sight (NLOS) ultraviolet communication (UVC) system. The TCFFN extracts the temporal features and the local features of the signals, offering strong adaptability to inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused by channel scattering. By evaluating a single-user and dual-user UVC on-off keying non-orthogonal multiple access (OOK-NOMA) systems, the results demonstrate that the TCFFN demodulator supports the higher rate transmission of NLOS UVC system compared with the static threshold (ST) demodulator and the minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer.

The impact of three-dimensional (3D) dose delivery accuracy of C-arm linacs on the planning target volume (PTV) margin was evaluated for non-coplanar intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS). A multi-institutional 3D starshot test using beams from seven directions was conducted at 22 clinics using Varian and Elekta linacs with X-ray CT-based polymer gel dosimeters. Variability in dose delivery accuracy was observed, with the distance between the imaging isocenter and each beam exceeding 1 mm at one institution for Varian and nine institutions for Elekta.

Department of Radiation Oncology and Image-Applied Therapy, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan.

To report clinical outcomes following highly hypofractionated biaxially rotational dynamic radiation therapy (BROAD-RT), a unique radiation therapy method that facilitates non-coplanar volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) without the need to rotate the couch or reposition the patient, for high-risk prostate cancer (PCa) with simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) for intra-prostatic dominant lesions (IPDLs), we performed a single-center prospective pilot study. In this study, patients with high-risk PCa according to the D'Amico classification or those with cT3aN0M0 PCa were eligible. VMAT was performed using BROAD-RT, and a dose of 54 Gy in 15 fractions was prescribed for the prostate in combination with SIB for IPDLs at a dose of 57 Gy in 15 fractions.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of couch rotation angles on non-coplanar volumetric modulated arc therapy (ncVMAT) plan for stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) in lung cancer patients and to evaluate the feasibility of clinically applying ncVMAT for SBRT.

Methods: Twenty-four lung cancer patients with a single lesion eligible for SBRT were enrolled in the study. Seven dual partial-arc VMAT plans with varying couch angles were designed for every patient.

Robotic devices with integrated tactile sensors can accurately perceive the contact force, pressure, sliding, and other tactile information, and they have been widely used in various fields, including human-robot interaction, dexterous manipulation, and object recognition. To address the challenges associated with the initial value drift, and to improve the durability and accuracy of the tactile detection for a robotic dexterous hand, in this study, a flexible tactile sensor is designed with high repeatability by introducing a supporting layer for pre-separation. The proposed tactile sensor has a detection range of 0-5 N with a resolution of 0.
