Objectives: Apolipoprotein C-III (APOC3) is a component of triglyceride rich lipoproteins, and SstI polymorphism has been associated with hypertriglyceridemia. Apolipoprotein A-I (APOA1) is the major component of HDL and MspI polymorphism has been associated with APOA1 and HDL-C levels. Thus, we study the influence of these polymorphisms in the postprandial response in metabolic syndrome (MS).

Genomic diversity of sweet potato geminiviruses in a Brazilian germplasm bank.

Virus Res

May 2010

Institute of Biology, Department of Molecular Biology and Plant Virology, University of Stuttgart, Pfaffenwaldring 57, 70550 Stuttgart, Germany.

Begomoviruses cause major diseases of sweet potato worldwide impairing considerably the yields of this important food staple. Since sweet potato plants are vegetatively propagated and globally transported, they are prone to accumulate and disseminate geminiviruses. Effective diagnostic tools are, therefore, desirable.

Association of apolipoprotein A1-C3 gene cluster polymorphisms with gallstone disease.

Can J Gastroenterol

September 2007

Department of Genetics, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institue of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, India.

Introduction: Genetic polymorphisms in apolipoprotein genes may be associated with alteration in lipid profile and susceptibility to gallstone disease.

Aim: To determine the association between apolipoprotein A1 (APOA1) -75 guanine [G] to adenine [A] and +83/84 M2(+/-), MspI) and apolipoprotein C3 (APOC3) (SstI) polymorphisms with gallstone disease.

Methods: MspI polymorphisms of the APOA1 gene and SstI polymorphisms of APOC3 were analyzed in DNA samples of 214 gallstone patients and 322 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

Aims: Genes of the Apo AI/CIII/AIV cluster on chromosome 11 have been related to plasma lipid patterns. The close relationship between carbohydrate metabolism and lipid metabolism warrants investigation of the association between this cluster and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. We therefore examined the possible association between polymorphisms of this cluster and Type 2 diabetes mellitus as part of a study of the prevalence of diabetes and the metabolic syndrome in southern Spain.

Relationship between gene polymorphisms and prevalence of myocardial infarction among diabetic and non-diabetic subjects.

Atherosclerosis

January 2005

Lipides, Aterosclerose e Biologia Vascular, Disciplina de Cardiologia-Universidade Federal de São Paulo, UNIFESP, Rua Pedro de Toledo 458, São Paulo 04039-001, Brazil.

This study was aimed to examine cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP), apolipoprotein AI and CIII gene polymorphisms, and to verify whether these genetic determinants are associated with the prevalence of myocardial infarction (MI) or type 2 diabetes. The TaqIB restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) in intron I of the CETP gene, the MspI in the third intron of the APOAI gene, and also SstI in the 3' untranslated region of the APOCIII gene were determined using standard methods. The prevalence of these polymorphisms was compared between diabetic (n = 119), and non-diabetic (n = 100) middle-aged individuals of both sexes.
