Effective fractionation of lignocellulose into hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin is the precondition for full-component valorization. Generally, harsh reaction conditions are used to improve fractionation efficiency, which leads to severe lignin condensation and inhibits its value-added applications. To address this issue, a novel biphasic system consisting of molten salt hydrates (MSHs) and n-butanol was developed for birch fractionation.

This study explores the immobilization of lipase from Candida rugosa (CRL) on hemp tea waste to catalyze the esterification of oleic acid with primary aliphatic C2-C12 alcohols in a solvent-free system. The immobilization method employed was adsorption, chosen for its simplicity, low cost, and ability to preserve enzyme activity. The esterification of undecanoic acid, lauric acid, and oleic acid with alcohols of varying chain lengths (ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-octanol, 1-decanol, and 1-dodecanol) was studied.

The upgrading of ethanol to -butanol marks a major breakthrough in the field of biofuel technology, offering the advantages of compatibility with existing infrastructure while simultaneously offering potential benefits in terms of transport efficiency and energy density. With its lower vapour pressure and reduced corrosiveness compared to ethanol, -butanol is easier not only to manage but also to transport, eliminating the need for costly infrastructure changes. This leads to improved fuel efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.

Due to the low bioavailability and insolubility of high molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (HMW-PAHs) in aqueous solutions, their degradation efficiency is significantly limited in wastewater treatment and environmental remediation. To address this challenge, we designed oil-in-water (O/W) macroemulsion (ME) bioreactors with mixed surfactants (Tween-80 and Triton X-100), -butanol, corn oil, and () to enhance the degradation efficiency of pyrene. Owing to the higher solubility of pyrene in MEs, it could be easily adsorbed onto hydrophobic groups on the cell surface.

The precise identification of various toxic gases is important to prevent health and environmental hazards using cost-effective, efficient, metal oxide-based chemiresistive sensing methods. This study explores the sensing properties of a chemiresistive sensor based on a ZnSnO-SnO microcomposite for detecting -butanol vapours. The microcomposite, enriched with oxygen vacancies, was thoroughly characterized, confirming its structure, crystallinity, morphology and elemental composition.
