Selected strips of a Holter recording obtained from a healthy young person with rare unifocal premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) were obtained. Occasionally, the PVCs were interpolated and showed the phenomenon originally named postponed compensatory pause by Langendorf [Am Heart J 1953;46:401]. But this is a misnomer because, by definition, interpolated PVCs do not have compensatory pauses. Thus, it follows that what does not exist cannot be postponed. In reality, the basic manifest feature is a prolongation of the first RR interval that follows the interpolated beat. However, in view of its use for more than half a century, it is probably best to continue using this terminology, but only as long as its underlying mechanism and fundamental manifestations are properly understood.

This study investigated the correlation between quantitative echocardiographic characteristics within 3 days of birth and necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and its severity in preterm infants. A retrospective study was conducted on 168 preterm infants with a gestational age of < 34 weeks. Patients were categorized into NEC and non-NEC groups.

Anderson-Fabry (or Fabry) disease is a rare lysosomal storage disorder caused by a functional deficiency of the enzyme alpha-galactosidase A. The partial or total defect of this lysosomal enzyme, which is caused by variants in the gene, leads to the accumulation of glycosphingolipids, mainly globotriaosylceramide in the lysosomes of different cell types. The clinical presentation of Fabry disease is multisystemic and can vary depending on the specific genetic variants associated with the disease.

Our research aimed to assess if correlations could be found between items evaluated at the cerebral ultrasound performed at term-equivalent age (TEA) and neuro-motor outcomes evaluated at 12 and 24 months of corrected age in a group of preterm infants. The following were assessed: the Levine Index, the diagonals of the lateral ventricles, the size of the ventricular midbody, the sinocortical distance, the width of the basal ganglia, the cortical depth at the level of the cingular sulcus and the maturation of the gyral folding. The neurologic evaluation was performed at 12 and 24 months of corrected age, according to the Amiel Tison neurologic examination, and the items from the calendar of motor acquisitions were used as outcome measures of the study-gross and fine motor subsets.

Objective: The current neurosurgical treatment for intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) of prematurity resulting in posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) seeks to reduce intracranial pressure with temporary and then permanent CSF diversion. In contrast, neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL) directly addresses the intraventricular blood that is hypothesized to damage the ependyma and parenchyma, leading to ventricular dilation and hydrocephalus. The authors sought to determine the feasibility of NEL in PHH.

Objectives: This systematic review aimed to review existing evidence to evaluate the effects of physical cardiac rehabilitation on cardio-pulmonary outcomes in the patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Methods: We conducted a systematic search of the databases PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The initial search led to 1222 citations after removing duplicate results.
