[Group and group interaction in nurses' activities: a needed knowledge].

Rev Gaucha Enferm

Enfermagem em Saúde Mental, Departamento de Assistência e Orientação Profissional da EEnf/UFRGS.

Published: March 2006

This study aimed at verifying the knowledge of nurses about groups and group functioning, as well as knowing which premises found their activities as coordinators of their working teams. The research was outlined by the descriptive-exploratory approach, carried out in a university hospital in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The results show that 97% of the participants like group work while 77.7% of the nurses use both empirical and theoretical knowledge as the basis for their activities. However, most of them were unaware of the meaning of operative group and basic assumptions. By using the empiric and theoretical knowledge, the nurse can have tools to work with group emotions and support actions regarding the client's care.

Objective: Stimulant medications are the primary pharmacological intervention for ADHD, yet our understanding of how sex and gender impact stimulant treatment outcomes remains limited. Clinical guidelines do not differ for female and male individuals despite possible sex and gender-related differences in effectiveness, adverse events, and pharmacokinetics. This theoretical framework identifies five key knowledge gaps relating to sex and gender effects in stimulant treatment.

Background: Sunburn and intermittent sun exposure elevate melanoma skin cancer risk. Sun protection behaviours, including limiting sun exposure, seeking shade, wearing protective gear, and using sunscreen, help mitigate excessive sun exposure. Smartphone apps present a promising platform to enhance these behaviours.

Effects of macrophages in OSCC progression.

Front Immunol

January 2025

Department of Oral Anatomy and Physiology, Jilin Provincial Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Engineering, Hospital of Stomatology, Jilin University, Changchun, China.

Macrophages are crucial immune cells within the tumor microenvironment (TME), involved in regulating tumor proliferation, invasion, metastasis, ECM remodeling, angiogenesis, and immunosuppression. Although more and more experimental evidence and clinical data indicate that macrophages are involved in the onset and progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the exact pathogenesis of OSCC associated with macrophages has not been fully elucidated. Enhanced knowledge of the molecular mechanisms involving macrophages in OSCC will aid in the creation of treatments targeted specifically at macrophages.

The promise of community-driven preprints in ecology and evolution.

Proc Biol Sci

January 2025

Evolution and Ecology Research Centre, School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of New South Wales, Sydney, New South Wales 2052, Australia.

Publishing preprints is quickly becoming commonplace in ecology and evolutionary biology. Preprints can facilitate the rapid sharing of scientific knowledge establishing precedence and enabling feedback from the research community before peer review. Yet, significant barriers to preprint use exist, including language barriers, a lack of understanding about the benefits of preprints and a lack of diversity in the types of research outputs accepted (e.
