The access to CD-modified monoliths for enantiomeric separation by CEC can be divided into two main approaches. (i) Silica-based monoliths, prepared by either a sol-gel process or by sintering of silica particles, are modified after fabrication by coating with a CD selector. Alternatively the fusion of CD functionalized silica particle via gluing is feasible. (ii) Rigid or homogeneous organic polymer-based monoliths, prepared by polymerization of organic monomers in the presence of a porogen, are modified with the CD selector either by copolymerization or by physical incorporation into the continuous bed.

Nano-LC with New Hydrophobic Monolith Based on 9-Antracenylmethyl Methacrylate for Biomolecule Separation.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Department of Chemistry, College of Science, Taif University, Taif P.O. Box 11099, Saudi Arabia.

In this study, new monolithic poly(9-anthracenylmethyl methacrylate-co-trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) columns, referred as ANM monoliths were prepared, for the first time, and were used for the separation media for biomolecules and proteomics analysis by nano-liquid chromatography (nano-LC). Monolithic columns were prepared by in situ polymerization of 9-anthracenylmethyl methacrylate (ANM) and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TRIM) in a fused silica capillary column of 100 µm ID. Polymerization solution was optimized in relation to monomer and porogenic solvent.

Selective Adsorption of Chlorine Species on RuO Sites for Efficient Elimination of Vinyl Chloride on the Ru/SnO Catalyst.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Engineering and Industrial Catalysis, Research Institute of Industrial Catalysis, School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai 200237, PR China.

The main bottleneck in the catalytic combustion of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) is deactivation and the production of chlorine-containing byproducts originating from the chlorine species deposited on the catalyst. Herein, Ru supported on SnO (Ru/SnO) was prepared with the lattice matching principle. As RuO and SnO are both rutile phases, Ru species were present as highly dispersed RuO particles on the Ru/SnO catalyst.

Background Aims: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have gained traction as potential cell-free therapeutic candidates. Development of purification methods that are scalable and robust is a major focus of EV research. Yet there is still little in the literature that evaluates purification methods against potency of the EV product.

Light-curing of restorative composite through milled and 3D-printed full-contour zirconia for adhesive luting.

Dent Mater

January 2025

KU Leuven, Department of Oral Health Sciences, BIOMAT & UZ Leuven, Dentistry, Kapucijnenvoer 7, 3000 Leuven, Belgium. Electronic address:

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of different zirconia compositions and manufacturing processes on the light irradiance (LI), to measure the degree of conversion (DC) of solely light-curing restorative composite underneath these zirconia grades and to evaluate the respective zirconia microstructures.

Methods: Six dental zirconia grades (GC HT, GC UHT [GC]; Katana HT, Katana UTML [Kuraray Noritake]; Lava Esthetic, Lava Plus [3 M Oral Care]) were cut and sintered per manufacturer instructions. One 3D-printed zirconia grade (XJet [XJET]) was prepared according to previous research.

Electronic address:

The release of microcystin (MCs) in aquatic ecosystems poses a substantial risk to the safety of irrigation and drinking water. In view of the challenges associated with monitoring MCs in water bodies, given their low concentration levels (μg/L to ng/L) and the presence of diverse matrix interferences, there is an urgent need to develop an efficient, cost-effective and selective enrichment technique for MCs prior to its quantification. In this work, a gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)-functionalized zwitterionic polymer monolith was described and further applied for the affinity enrichment of MCs.
