In a group of 465 patients diagnosed as having chronic mercury toxicity (CMT), 32.3% had severe fatigue, 88.8% had memory loss, and 27.5% had depression. A significant correlation was found between CMT and the Apo-lipoprotein E4 genotype (p=0.001). An investigation into an additional 864 consecutively seen general practice patients, resulted in 30.3% having evidence consistent with CMT, and once again a significant correlation was found with the APO-E4 genotype (p=0.001). Removal of amalgam mercury fillings when combined with appropriate treatment resulted in a significant symptom reduction (p<0.001) to levels reported by healthy subjects.

Mercury is a pervasive global pollutant, with primary anthropogenic sources including mining, industrial processes, and mercury-containing products such as dental amalgams. These sources release mercury into the environment, where it accumulates in ecosystems and enters the food chain, notably through bioamplification in marine life, posing a risk to human health. Dental amalgams, widely used for over a century, serve as a significant endogenous source of inorganic mercury.

Mercury (II) ion (Hg) as highly toxic heavy metal may be accumulated in aquatic ecosystems and animals species so as to enter human body to conduct health harm. To ensure the safety of fishes food, hence, it is of great interest to evaluate the Hg levels in different kinds of fishes as well as Hg removal in aquaculture tailwater. In this article, a selective colormetric detection and efficient removal strategy has been developed for Hg ions by the controlled supermolecular self-assembly of melamine (MA)-platinum (Pt) composites onto mesoporous FeO carriers.

Metal ions are indispensable to life, as they can serve as essential enzyme cofactors to drive fundamental biochemical reactions, yet paradoxically, excess is highly toxic. Higher-order cells have evolved functionally distinct organelles that separate and coordinate sophisticated biochemical processes to maintain cellular homeostasis upon metal ion stimuli. Here, we uncover the remodeling of subcellular architecture and organellar interactome in yeast initiated by several metal ion stimulations, relying on near-native three-dimensional imaging, cryo-soft X-ray tomography.

Infants are particularly vulnerable to exposure to toxic trace elements due to their developmental stage and behaviors such as mouthing and chewing on toys. Chemical exposure to heavy metals in infants' toys is a significant concern as it poses a threat to their health and well-being. Therefore, quality control measures are essential to prevent infants' exposure to potentially harmful metals.

Sodium chloride, commonly referred to as table salt, is the most widely utilized seasoning in culinary applications. Nevertheless, the most of oral salts used contain impurities. Arsenic (As), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), and lead (Pb) are the most common impurities found in salt.
