Acute pancreatitis during pregnancy is an uncommon complication. The usual cause is biliary tract disease. Cholesterol and triglyceride plasma levels physiologically increase during pregnancy. Pregravidic hypertriglyceridemia (as much primary as secondary) may be exacerbated and occasionally act as the trigger. Early diagnosis and treatment are the keys because related morbidity and mortality are high. We report a case of diabetic ketoacidosis and hypertriglyceridemia-induced gestational pancreatitis (tryglicerid level of 12,100 mg/dL) treated successfully with conservative management. The clinical, biochemical and therapeutic aspects comment in addition of this pathology, as well as its prevention

Background/aims: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a common complication during pregnancy, defined as diabetes diagnosed in the second or third trimester, often asymptomatic. This study investigates the therapeutic potential of olive leaf extracts and stem cells in mitigating GDM-induced complications, particularly focusing on renal function, oxidative stress, and pancreatic cell regeneration.

Methods: Measurements were made in gravid female rats with or without intraperitoneal administration of Streptozotocin (35 mg/kg body weight).

Background/aims: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), a prevalent complication in pregnancy, is characterized by the Diabetes Association as diabetes diagnosed in the second or third trimester, often remaining asymptomatic. This study investigates the intricate effects of Streptozotocin on pregnant rats, unraveling its impact on Gestational Type 2 Diabetes (GTD). The research delves into the potential therapeutic roles of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and olive leaf extract (OLE) in mitigating the consequences of Streptozotocin-induced pancreatic impairment.

Aims: This study examined the association of gravida C-peptide with progeny islet function and insulin sensitivity in the Hyperglycemia and Adverse Pregnancy Outcome Follow-up Study (HAPO FUS).

Methods: Pregnancy 3rd trimester oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT), cord blood, and offspring OGTT glucose, C-peptide and insulin at age 10-14 years were analyzed for 4,121 mother-child dyads. Gravida fasting and 1-hour C-peptide concentration correlations with cord blood and childhood C-peptide, insulin, insulinogenic index and insulin sensitivity, and insulin resistance [HOMA-IR]), were assessed by multiple linear regression.

Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and insulin are important fetal anabolic hormones. Complications of pregnancy, such as placental insufficiency, can lead to fetal growth restriction FGR) with low circulating IGF-1 and insulin concentrations and attenuated glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS), which likely contribute to neonatal glucose dysregulation. We previously demonstrated that a one-week infusion of IGF-1 LR3, an IGF-1 analog with low affinity for IGF binding proteins and high affinity for the IGF-1 receptor, at 6.

Gallbladder disease is a frequent indication for non-obstetric surgical intervention during pregnancy. Gallbladder perforation (GBP) during pregnancy is an uncommon but severe pathology that usually requires immediate attention, and it represents a challenge for surgeons. We present the case of a GBP in a pregnant patient alongside a discussion of available surgical approaches.
