Background: The process of ingrowth of new blood vessels is stimulated by the action of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), while it may be simultaneously related to the degree of tissue hypoxia. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1alpha (HIF-1alpha) is a protein of cellular response to hypoxia. The relationship between hypoxia and angiogenesis in patients with benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PCa) was examined.
Materials And Methods: One hundred and seventy (170) prostatic tissue samples were immunohistochemically evaluated. The microvessel density (MVD) was calculated by CD34 immunostaining; the angiogenetic profile was further assessed using a monoclonal antibody against VEGF. HIF-1alpha immunoreaction was recognized through nuclear staining of positive cells.
Results: CD34, VEGF and HIF-1alpha staining reactions were significantly higher in the PCa group than in the BPH group. In both groups, an interrelationship between the immunoexpression of CD34 and HIF-1alpha, VEGF and HIF-1alpha, as well as VEGF and CD34 was detected.
Conclusion: MVD, VEGF cytoplasmic immunoreactivity and HIF-1alpha immunoreaction were more prominent in PCa than in BPH and were also significantly associated with high-grade carcinomas.

Objectives: To investigate the mechanism of PHPS1 for promoting apoptosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma cells and the role of AMPK in regulating tumor angiogenesis under hypoxic conditions.
Methods: Human oral squamous cell carcinoma Ca9-22 cells cultured in hypoxic conditions (1% O) were inoculated subcutaneously in 16 nude mice, which were divided into control group and PHPS1 group (8) for treatment with 10% DMSO and 10% PHPS1 respectively. Tumor growth in the mice was monitored till 14 days after the treatment, and the xenografts were examined pathologically using HE staining.

Aims: Post stroke hyperglycemia has been shown to deter functional recovery. Earlier findings have indicated the cap-dependent translation regulator 4E-BP1 is detrimentally upregulated in hyperglycemic conditions. The present study aims to test the hypothesis that hyperglycemic ischemic reperfusion injury (I/R) affects normal protein translation poststroke.

Diabetic wound healing is hampered due to oxidative stress, exacerbated inflammation, and impaired angiogenesis in the wounds. A pH-sensitive antioxidant hydrogel based on carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS), oligoprocyanidins (OPC), and oxide dextran (Oxd) is prepared to accelerate diabetic wound healing. The hydrogel network is formed via imine and hydrogen bonding interactions in the presence of hydroxyl, amino, and aldehyde groups, and deferoxamine (DFO) is incorporated into the hydrogel.

We investigated the mechanism of action of atropine in myopia control by examining its effect on choroidal hemodynamics. Blood flow was evaluated using indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence and molecular variation during the development of form-deprivation myopia (FDM) and atropine treatment in guinea pigs. Guinea pigs were divided randomly into the normal control (NC), FDM, and FDM + 1% atropine (ATR) groups, and evaluated by spherical equivalent refractive error (SE) and axial length (AL).
