Post-mortem medical examiner samples may be useful for sentinel surveillance of disorders usually detected by antibody determinations on specimens from ill patients or from surveys. We found anti-dengue IgM positivity in 3% (23/780) and anti-dengue IgG positivity in 77% (597/777) of sera obtained at the Puerto Rico medical examiner (Institute of Forensic Sciences) in December 2000, April 2001, and October 2001. This approach may be a useful alternative for estimating the population prevalence of serologic markers for dengue and other infectious diseases.

The sudden death of a previously healthy infant is a devastating event for a family-the death of 2 even more unimaginable. Prior to the debunking of Meadow's law, a legal concept attributing multiple unexplained infant deaths to Munchausen by proxy, these events could lead to the wrongful prosecution of those who had lost their children to "sudden unexpected infant death (SUID)." Today, these cases, wherein multiple infants within one family pass inexplicably, raise suspicion for a possible genetic cause and point toward a need for postmortem genetic testing.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is a significant burden on healthcare systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries where access to diagnosis and treatment is challenging.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy and cost using tissue microarray (TMA) instead of traditional immunohistochemical (IHC) evaluation for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2), and the proliferation marker Ki-67 and BC subtyping within the Brazilian public health system.

Design: This is a retrospective cohort study comparing TMA slides with traditional whole-slide evaluation for IHC markers in 242 BC cases.

Fractures of the condylar region of the mandible, although fairly common, also generate the most debate regarding management-both closed and open treatment options have been recommended and shown to yield good results. We present our experience with a minimal access retromandibular approach to fractures of the vertical mandible.  This is a retrospective study of all patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for fractures of the vertical mandible (condyle, subcondylar region, ramus) using a retromandibular approach at a tertiary care hospital in a metropolitan city in India between January 2022 and July 2023.
