The effects of purines and methylated purine analogues on hydrogen peroxide- and ozone-induced lipid peroxidation in human erythrocyte membranes were studied in-vitro. Many purines and purine analogues showed a suppressive effect on the formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive materials. 1,3-Dimethyluric acid and 1,3,7-trimethyluric acid showed high potency in prevention of lipid peroxidation. These effects were shown to be concentration dependent and were more potent at low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and ozone. 1,3-Dimethyluric acid and 1,3,7-trimethyluric acid may be useful as antioxidants.

Metallofullerenols and fullerenols have attracted attention due to their remarkable ability to interact with various biologically relevant molecules, paving the way for biomedical applications, ranging from medical imaging techniques to drug carriers, acting with increased efficiency and reduced side effects. In this work, we investigated the effects of two fullerene derivatives, Gd@C(OH) and C(OH), on erythrocyte membrane components under oxidative stress conditions induced by 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) as a source of peroxyl radicals. The results demonstrated that gadolinium encapsulation within the fullerene cage enhanced the electron affinity of Gd@C(OH), resulting in stronger antioxidant activity.

Di-2-(ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) is a phthalate derivative used extensively in a wide range of materials, such as medical devices, toys, cosmetics, and personal care products. Many mechanisms, including epigenetics, may be involved in the effects of phthalates on brain development. In this study, Sprague-Dawley male rats were obtained 21-23 days after their birth (post-weaning) and were exposed to DEHP during the prepubertal period with low-dose DEHP (DEHP-L, 30 mg/kg/day) and high-dose DEHP (DEHP-H, 60 mg/kg/day, 37 days) until the end of adolescence (PND 60).
