Objective: To explore the morphologic, immunophenotypic, cytogenetic and clinical features of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients with dicentric (9; 20) (p11 - 13; q11).

Methods: Chromosome specimens of bone marrow cells were prepared by direct method and/or short-time culture. Karyo-typing was performed by R-banding technique. Dual-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was performed using both chromosome 9 classical satellite probe and chromosome 20 alpha-satellite probe in one patient.

Results: The two ALL patients were positive for CD10 and HLA-DR, showing of B cell origin. Both patients had dicentric (9; 20): case 1 was 45, XY, der (9) t (9; 20) (p11; q11), -20[20]; case 2 was 45, XX, der (9) t (9; 20) (p13; q11), t (9; 22) (q34; q11), -20[10]/46, idem, +8[16]/47, idem, +8, +21[14]. Mutual translocation between chromosomes 9 and 20 of the dicentric chromosome was confirmed by FISH in one patient.

Conclusions: Dicentric (9; 20) (p11 - 13; q11) is a rare recurring chromosome abnormality associated with ALL. Because of the subtle nature of the translocation, FISH is essential for the detection of this abnormality.

In this study, the protective effects of Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) against gamma radiation-induced DNA damage and associated physiological alterations in Swiss albino mice were investigated. Exposure to gamma radiation led to a dose-dependent increase in cytokinesis-blocked micronuclei (CBMN) double-strand DNA breaks (DSBs), dicentric aberrations (DC), formation in peripheral blood mononuclear cells. However, pretreatment with PNS at concentrations of 1, 5, and 10 µg/mL significantly attenuated the frequencies of DC and CBMN in a concentration-dependent manner.

Background: High-dose radiation altering the genetic material in patients' bone marrow cells can lead to hematopoietic radiation syndrome. Accordingly, the presence of radiation protections agents is critical to preventing these adverse effects.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the radioprotection of the exclusive or combination effect of resveratrol and crocin extracts at various concentrations on irradiated human lymphocytes.

Objective: Chromosome breakage is a catastrophic event that leads to the progressive development and progression of cancer. In order to analyze the changes of peripheral blood microenvironment of tumor patients, to explore the indicators of non-specific non-invasive tumor early screening. This paper presents a new idea of whether the gene sequence near the DNA damage break point is the gene sequence that controls the unrestricted growth of normal cells.

Background: Biodosimetry is the quantification of absorbed radiation dose using biological material obtained from an exposed individual. Radiation can cause different types of chromosomal aberrations, including stable aberrations like translocations and unstable ones like micronuclei, dicentric chromosomes (DC), acentric, and ring forms. Dicentric chromosome assay has become the "gold standard" for cytogenetic biodosimetry due to its reproducibility, specificity (low baseline rates), and sensitivity to low doses.

Introduction X-rays are widely used in medicine for diagnosis and treatment. Such beneficial uses may cause potentially hazardous situations for patients and workers in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. The present study aims to estimate the radiation dose scattered in different parts of the catheterization units and doses absorbed by workers in this unit, and patients who underwent cardiac catheterization procedures to evaluate all changes in hematological parameters and damaged cells (the cells that contain a number of chromosomal aberrations) after exposure to radiation at Azadi Teaching Hospital in the Duhok City of Iraq.
