National Institute for Health Research Health Protection Research Unit in Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance, Imperial College London, Du Cane Road, London W12 0HS, UK.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates the current legality and practices of online pharmacies selling antibiotics in the UK, noting a shift from mostly consumer-driven decisions in 2016 to more regulated practices now.
  • - The research involved analyzing 20 online pharmacy websites for evidence of registration, prescription requirements, and information provided to consumers regarding their health before purchasing antibiotics.
  • - Findings show that while all analyzed pharmacies require a prescription and are registered in the UK, there are still significant variations in how consumer-driven these choices are, presenting a need for better regulations and guidelines in online antibiotic sales.

Study Question: Does a public online IVF success prediction calculator based on real-world data help set patient expectations?

Summary Answer: The YourIVFSuccess Estimator aided consumer expectations of IVF success: one quarter (24%) of participants were unsure of their estimated IVF success before using the tool; one half changed their prediction of success after using the tool and one quarter (26%) had their expectations of IVF success confirmed.

What Is Known Already: Several web-based IVF prediction tools exist worldwide but have not been evaluated for their impact on patient expectations, nor for patient perceptions of usefulness and trustworthiness.

Study Design, Size, Duration: This is a pre-post evaluation of a convenience sample of 780 online users of the Australian YourIVFSuccess Estimatorhttps://yourivfsuccess.

Physicochemical and Sensory Properties Colored Whey Protein-Cellulose Nanocrystal Edible Films after Freeze-Thaw Treatment.

November 2022

Key Laboratory of Functional Dairy, College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering, China Agricultural University, Beijing 100083, China.

Balancing physicochemical properties and sensory properties is one of the key points in expanding edible packaging applications. The work consisted of two parts, one was to investigate the effects of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) on the packaging-related properties of whey protein isolate films with natural colorants (curcumin, phycocyanin, and lycopene) under freeze-thaw (FT) conditions; the other was to test oral tactility and visual sensory properties of the edible films and their overall acceptability in packed ice cream. FT treatment reduced the mechanical strength and moisture content and increased the water vapor permeability of the films, as water-phase transformation not only disrupted hydrogen bonds but also the film network structure through physical stress.

In-network caching has evolved into a new paradigm, paving the way for the creation of Named Data Networking (NDN). Rather than simply being typical Internet technology, NDN serves a range of functions, with a focus on consumer-driven network architecture. The NDN design has been proposed as a method for replacing Internet Protocol (IP) addresses with identified content.
