The target of breeding red-fleshed apples is to increase their potential health benefits related to red flesh coloration and consumer acceptance. The objective of this study was to determine the usefulness of four clones (90, 120, 156, and 158) of red-fleshed apples for freeze-drying compared to the cultivar 'Trinity'. Red-fleshed apples were dried in the form of slices using a laboratory freeze-dryer.

Background: Previously, a lexicon and protocol for quantitative descriptive analysis (QDA) was established for the Uganda sweetpotato breeding program. The implication of QDA scores for priority sensory attributes on consumer preference should be determined to interpret results efficiently and make decisions effectively. The present study aimed to develop a gender-responsive decision tree to obtain an overall sweetpotato eating quality score to facilitate demand-led targeted breeding selection.

The insect repellent methyl salicylate elicits excitatory responses upon interaction with CquiOR32, an odorant receptor (OR) from the southern house mosquito, Culex quinquefasciatus. By contrast, eucalyptol binds to CquiOR32 to generate electrophysiological and behavioral inhibitory responses. In an attempt to identify CquiOR32 variants displaying more robust inhibitory responses for more accurate current-voltage analysis, we sequenced 31 CquiOR32 clones.

Insects possess a fairly sophisticated olfactory system in their antennae to detect odorants essential for their survival and reproduction. Among them, insect first perceives odour sources by odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) to locate host-plants. Methyl salicylate, (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate and dibutyl phthalate are major volatile components of Ulmus pumila and Ricinus communis and elicit strong responses of the scarab beetle Holotrichia oblita adults.

Three important wine parameters: vineyard, region, and vintage year, were evaluated using fifteen Vitis vinifera L. 'Pinot noir' wines derived from the same scion clone (Pinot noir 667). These wines were produced from two vintage years (2015 and 2016) and eight different regions along the Pacific Coast of the United States.
