Aim: To assess the efficacy and safety of tadalafil in comparison to a placebo, when taken on demand for 12 weeks by East/Southeast Asian men with erectile dysfunction (ED).

Methods: This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel group, placebo-controlled study was conducted at 17 centers across East and Southeast Asia between August 2002 and February 2003. Men more than 18 years of age with mild to severe ED of various etiologies were randomized to receive a placebo or 20 mg of tadalafil taken as needed (maximum once daily). Efficacy assessments included the International Index of Erectile Function, the Sexual Encounter Profile diary and Global Assessment Questions.

Results: Tadalafil significantly improved erectile function as compared to the placebo (P < 0.001). At the endpoint, the patients receiving 20 mg of tadalafil reported a greater mean per patient percentage of successful intercourse attempts (Sexual Encounter Profile question 3: 70.9% compared to 33.5% in the placebo) and a greater proportion of improved erections (Global Assessment Question: 86.2% compared to 30.1%). Most (= or < 3%) treatment emergent adverse events were mild or moderate. The most common treatment emergent adverse events were headache, back pain, dizziness and dyspepsia.

Conclusion: Tadalafil was an effective and well-tolerated treatment for ED in East and Southeast Asian men.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends an interval of at least 24 months from the date of a live birth to the conception of the next pregnancy in order to reduce the risk of adverse maternal, perinatal, and infant outcomes. There is limited data about the implementation of this recommendation and its contributing factors in low-land ecologies in Oromia, which is the biggest regional state in Ethiopia.

Objective: To assess the inter-pregnancy interval and determine associated factors among parous women in selected low-land districts of Arsi and East Shoa Zone.

Aquilaria malaccensis Lam., an Agarwood-producing tree native to Southeast Asia, secretes oleoresin, a resin with diverse applications, in response to injuries. To explore the role of endosphere microbial communities during Agarwood development, we utilized a metagenomics approach across three stages: non-symptomatic (NC), symptomatic early (IN), and symptomatic mature (IN1).

Vessel strikes are a critical threat to endangered North Atlantic right whales (Eubalaena glacialis), significantly contributing to their elevated mortality. Accurate estimates of these mortality rates are essential for developing effective management strategies to aid in the species' recovery. This study enhances existing vessel strike models by incorporating detailed regional data on vessel traffic characteristics as well as whale distribution and behavior.

As a typical East Asian country transitioning from a production-based social insurance system to a modern free social insurance system, South Korea has set a precedent for other Asian countries. This study adopts data from 2006, 2010, and 2012 Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging (KLoSA) and uses a fixed effect analysis of the quasi-natural experiment to conclude that the increase in the Korean pension contribution rate has a limited negative impact on social security participation. The degree of filial piety of children, including the financial support of those children, rather than the number of children, affects the participation of the elderly in social security insurance.
