Dispersion stabilization of proteins by carrageenan in baked milk: A quantitative separation study.

Food Chem

January 2025

Chongqing Key Laboratory of Speciality Food Co-Built by Sichuan and Chongqing, College of Food Science, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China,. Electronic address:

Baked milk is subjected to prolonged high-temperature processing, which often undermines its dispersion stability. While carrageenan is known to inhibit milk demixing, its role in stabilizing heat-induced protein aggregates remains inadequately understood. In this study, we isolated casein micelles (CM), whey protein-casein aggregates (WPCA), and whey protein aggregates (WPA) from baked milk through centrifugation.

Impact of Warfarin and Dual Antiplatelet Therapy on Graft Failure After Coronary Endarterectomy: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Cardiovasc Drugs Ther

January 2025

Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Guangdong Academy of Medical Sciences, The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Guangdong Cardiovascular Institute, Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.

Purpose: Coronary endarterectomy combined with coronary artery bypass grafting (CE-CABG) effectively achieves coronary revascularization in patients with diffuse atherosclerotic coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the loss of the subendothelial tissue at the CE-CABG coronary artery accelerates local thrombosis, leading to CE-CABG graft failure. Dual antiplatelet therapy (DAT) and warfarin plus aspirin (WPA) are the two most common anticoagulation strategies post CE-CABG.

Enhancing road performance and sustainability: A study on recycled porous warm mix asphalt.

Sci Total Environ

January 2025

Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering, University of Bologna, Via U. Terracini 28, 40131 Bologna, BO, Italy.

The growing demand for sustainable infrastructure has increased interest in eco-friendly design solutions such as porous asphalt (PA) pavements, which manage stormwater runoff and mitigate urban heat islands, and warm mix asphalt (WMA), which reduces energy consumption and emissions during production. This study evaluates the mechanical and environmental performance of four warm mix porous asphalt (WPA) mixtures incorporating recycled materials and by-products: reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), aramid pulp fibres, and electric arc furnace (EAF) steel slag. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) with a cradle-to-cradle approach was conducted to comprehensively assess environmental impacts.

Enhancing wet phosphoric acid production efficiency with vanadium catalyst waste derived silica.

Heliyon

November 2024

Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry and PhysicoChemistry of Materials, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences Ben M'Sik, University Hassan II, Casablanca, Morocco.

Article Synopsis
  • Filtration of phosphogypsum (PG) is crucial for wet phosphoric acid (WPA) production, but Moroccan phosphate rocks are lacking in reactive silica, negatively impacting efficiency.
  • Researchers added reactive silica waste from spent vanadium catalysts to improve the digestion process, which enhanced the quality of the dihydrate WPA by 6% and boosted the chemical reaction yield by 5%.
  • The resulting changes in PG crystal shape led to better filtration, indicating potential for larger-scale testing and industrial application.

Tobacco smoking is the leading cause of disability and preventable deaths worldwide, but it should be differentiated from tobacco use disorder, which is, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, a mental disorder. The rapid delivery of nicotine to the brain activates acetylcholine receptors and stimulates the release of dopamine, both systems implicated in other mental disorders. Rates of tobacco use disorder are much higher among people suffering from other mental disorders and these patients find it more difficult to quit.
