Published: June 2005

Palladium nanocrystals were grown on a nanostructured SrTiO(3)(001) surface and annealed in ultrahigh vacuum at 620 degrees C. This leads to the so-called strong metal-support interaction (SMSI) state, characterized by encapsulation of the metal clusters with an oxide layer. Scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) of the oxide adlayer on the Pd(111) cluster surface reveals two superstructures with different lattice parameters and crystallographic rotations. Interpretation of the STM images is most readily achieved via noncommensurate TiO(x)() surface layers which result in two distinct Moiré patterns.

Traditional drug-delivery methods are limited by low bioavailability and nonspecific drug distribution, resulting in poor therapeutic efficacy and potential risks of toxicity. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) have attracted wide attention as drug-delivery carriers due to their large specific surface area, adjustable pore size, good mechanical strength, good biocompatibility, and rich hydroxyl groups on their surface. In this paper, MSNs were synthesized by a template method, and the morphology and pore structure were regulated.

This study presents the fabrication of highly conducting Au fabric electrodes using a layer-by-layer (LBL) approach and its application toward energy storage. Through the ligand-exchange mechanism, the alternating layers of tris(2-aminoethyl)amine (TREN) and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) encapsulated with tetraoctylammonium bromide (TOABr) ligands (Au-TOABr) were deposited onto the fabric to achieve a highly conducting Au fabric (0.12 Ω/□) at room temperature in just two LBL cycles.

Purpose: The main purpose of the study was the formulation development of nanogels (NHs) composed of chondroitin sulfate (CS) and low molecular weight chitosan (lCH), loaded with a naringenin-β-cyclodextrin complex (NAR/β-CD), as a potential treatment for early-stage diabetic retinopathy.

Methods: Different formulations of NHs were prepared by varying polymer concentration, lCH ratio, and pH and, then, characterized for particle size, zeta potential, particle concentration (particles/mL) and morphology. Cytotoxicity and internalization were assessed in vitro using Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVEC).

Various lipid and biopolymer-based nanocarriers have been developed to encapsulate food ingredients. The selection of nanocarrier type, preparation techniques, and loading methods should consider the compatibility of nutrient properties, nanocarrier composition, and product requirements. This review focuses on the loading methods for hydrophilic and hydrophobic substances, along with a detailed exploration of nanocarrier categorization, composition, and preparation methods.

Well-designed artificial scaffolds are urgently needed due to the limited self-repair capacity of bone, which hampers effective regeneration in critical defects. Optimal scaffolds must provide physical guidance to recruit cells and immune regulation to improve the regenerative microenvironment. This study presents a novel scaffold composed of dual-sided centripetal microgrooved poly(D,L-lactide-co-caprolactone) (PLCL) film combined with a dynamic hydrogel containing prednisolone (PLS)-loaded Prussian blue nanoparticles (PB@PLS).
