In this work nine DNA hairpins (HPs) are studied at room temperature to observe their pyrene(*+)/dU(*-) CT excited-state dynamics following photoexcitation at 355 nm with a 25 ps laser pulse. The HPs are 18-24 bases long, have a central tetra-T loop, and have a single U(PE) (5-(2-pyren-1-yl-ethylenyl)-2'-deoxyuridine) substitution in the central region of their stems. Three of the HPs are also substituted with 5-XdU traps, where X = Br or F, to learn about the effects of these traps on CT excited-state lifetimes and emission quantum yields in U(PE) substituted HPs. The combination of lengthened average CT lifetime and enhanced CT emission quantum yield in HPs with excess electron traps compared to HPs lacking traps strongly suggests that excess electrons are injected into the DNA stem at pyrimidine sites external to U(PE) as well via charge separation within U(PE) itself. Furthermore, the increased CT emission quantum yield in HPs with traps compared to HPs without traps implies that externally injected electrons can migrate to uracil in U(PE) (i.e., Py(*+)dU) and thus indirectly form the emissive Py(*+)dU(*-) CT state of U(PE).

A pair of aza-BODIPY isomers, 1,7-di--butyl-3,5-dinaphthyl (Nap-BDP) and 1,7-dinaphthyl-3,5-di--butyl (revNap-BDP), were prepared in this study. According to the single crystal X-ray analysis, Nap-BDP exhibited an orthogonal structure. Owing to the difference in orthogonality and -Bu rotation between Nap-BDP and revNap-BDP, their spectral performances, including maximum absorption and emission, full width at half maximum, fluorescence quantum yield, photostability, singlet oxygen generation and photothermal conversion efficiency, were obviously different.

We present state-to-state differential cross sections for rotationally inelastic collisions of vibrationally excited NO XΠ ( = 9) with Ar using a near-counterpropagating molecular beam geometry. These were obtained using the stimulated emission pumping technique coupled with velocity map imaging. Collision energies well over ∼1 eV were achieved and rotational excitations up to ∼Δ = 60 recorded for the first time for inelastic collisions.

Lanthanide-doped fluoride nanocrystals have emerged as promising tools in biomedicine, yet their applications are still limited by their low luminescence efficiency. Herein, we developed highly efficient lithium-based core-shell-shell (CSS) nanoprobes (NPs) featuring a rhombic active domain and a spherical inert protective shell. By introducing Yb as an energy transfer bridge and optimizing the CSS design, a remarkable 1643-fold enhancement in visible emission and a 33-fold increase in NIR emission are achieved compared to original nanoparticles.

Short-wave infrared (SWIR) phosphor-converted light-emitting diode (LED) technology holds promise for advancing broadband light sources. Despite the potential, limited research has delved into the energy transfer mechanism from sharp-line to broadband emission in SWIR phosphors, which remains underexplored. Herein, we demonstrate bright SWIR phosphors achieved through Cr/Ni energy transfer in LiGaAl O.

Objectives: Brain perfusion single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) image quality varies depending on SPECT systems. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between physical parameters and visual analysis for assessment of the brain SPECT image quality. We conducted our phantom study under various conditions in a multi-center and multi-vendor study.
