Hirsutism is a symptom or sign, which may have more serious associations than cosmetic and psychological concern alone, such as adrenal hyperplasia and ovarian tumor, particularly if it develops well after puberty. Some medicines having androgenic activity may also cause this problem. Here, we present a case of a young unmarried girl who was given anabolic steroid for the treatment of dysmenorrhoea which resulted in hirsutism.

Cyproterone acetate (CPA), a hydroxyprogesterone derivative, is used to treat advanced prostate cancer and infrequently in women for acne, breast cancer and hirsutism. Transient mild elevation in levels of liver enzymes is reported in 10-30% of patients, and acute liver failure (ALF) is uncommon. Here, we discuss the first case of CPA-induced ALF from India and the available literature.

Cornelia de Lange Syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that results in distinctive craniofacial deformities, developmental delay, hirsutism, and other physical abnormalities. Case reports suggest some of these patients exhibit sensitivity and paradoxical reactions to certain psychoactive drugs. This report of a 16-year-old male with Cornelia de Lange is the first to describe dystonia from a first-generation antipsychotic that did not respond to conventional treatment with diphenhydramine.
