At the maternal-fetal interface, tightly regulated levels of retinoic acid (RA), the physiologically active metabolite of vitamin A, are required for embryo implantation and pregnancy success. Herein, we utilize mouse models, primary human cells, and pharmacological tools to demonstrate how depletion of RA signaling via RA receptor (RAR) disrupts implantation and progression of early pregnancy. To inhibit RAR signaling during early pregnancy, BMS493, an inverse pan-RAR agonist that prevents RA-induced differentiation, was administered to pregnant mice during the peri-implantation period.

All--retinal (atRAL)-induced photoreceptor atrophy and retinal degeneration are hallmark features of dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and Stargardt disease type 1 (STGD1). The toxicity of atRAL is closely related to the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Quercetin, a natural product, is known for its potent antioxidant properties; however, its effects in mitigating atRAL-mediated retinal damage remains unclear.

Background: Acne is prevalent in approximately 80% of individuals aged 11 to 30 years, with scarring occurring in about 40% of cases. Early and sustained treatment is crucial for preventing acne scarring, regardless of severity.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate skin tolerability and patient compliance after combining a specific dermatologic routine with pharmacological therapy in patients affected by different degrees of acne.

Acne is a chronic dermatologic disorder that can require long-term treatment. To prevent recurrence after oral treatment for severe acne, topical maintenance treatment is recommended; however, there is little guidance or research on maintenance regimens. This article briefly summarizes literature on oral isotretinoin and topical retinoids and presents a case series of patients who received tazarotene 0.
