Healy, et al. recently distinguished between recency and "penultimate" effects when contrasting recall performance. They argued that the penultimate effect was significantly different from the typical recency effect, which point was taken as support for distinguishing between primary and secondary memory systems. The current study adapted the Healy, et al. methodology to control for the occurrence of intentional learning strategies. 40 participants were asked to recall the names of 42 U.S. Presidents by their term in office (secondary memory) or in a pseudorandom order (primary memory); the recency and penultimate effects were observed for each condition. With intentional learning controlled for, contrast analyses yielded a pattern of performance similar to that observed by Healy, et al.

Unlabelled: Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic syndrome characterized by non-caseous granulomatous inflammation, although necrotizing sarcoid granulomatosis is considered part of the spectrum of the disease. Drug induced sarcoidosis-like reaction (DISR) is a systemic granulomatous reaction, which is histopathologically identical to primary sarcoidosis - mostly described after the use of biologics like tumour necrosis factor alpha antagonists but also anti-CD20 (rituximab). The authors present the very rare case of a woman with a primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) started on rituximab for disease control, which evolved with a 3-year indolent progressive systemic sarcoid reaction.

Free water (FW) measured derived from diffusion tensor imaging and one of the selected neuroimaging biomarker "kits", has been demonstrated to have excellent instrumental validity and to be a sensitive biomarker of cognitive performances. We sought to further examine FW clinical relevance by investigating whether FW predicts cognitive worsening over time.

Background: The MarkVCID consortium was established to address the paucity of biomarkers for vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID), a leading cause of dementia. Plasma neurofilament light (NfL), a neuroaxonal injury marker elevated in several neurological and neurodegenerative diseases, was selected as one of the first biomarkers to be examined. We performed comprehensive instrumental and clinical validation of the Quanterix Simoa NfL assay using the first MarkVCID cohort.

This study presents a pilot investigation into digital cognitive screening, utilizing an Android version of the DANA tests, conducted among a diverse South Asian population residing in India.
Methods: The study involved individuals aged over 50 years, nested within the ongoing population-based longitudinal Precision-CARRS study, representative of socio-demographically and linguistically diverse adults from Delhi and Chennai in India.
Background: The Alzheimer's disease (AD) continuum is composed of the stages of Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer's Disease Dementia (ADD). The decrease in gray matter volume (GMV) secondary to cortical atrophy, commonly seen in this continuum, is related to cognitive and activities of daily living (ADL) impairment. Additionally, White Matter Hyperintensities (WMH), MRI abnormalities frequently observed in older adults and patients with dementia, are also associated with cognitive and ADL performance.
